It’s official guys, the mercury has dropped beneath a balmy 18 degrees on more than one occasion this week, which can only mean one thing; winter has finally arrived in Brisbane! Time for rugging up in cosy knitwear (lightweight, obvs), upping our hot beverage consumption to a minimum of 2 per-day, and chowing down on some of Brisbane’s best porridge concoctions!

Check out our picks of the best cafes in Brisbane, doing fabulous things with the humble oat.

Sourced Grocer

Teneriffe

We were devastated when they took this off the menu last year (damn you seasonal menus!), but we’re pleased as punch to welcome back Sourced Grocers iconic poached quince porridge this time featuring rye, ricotta and walnuts.

Harveys Bar + Bistro

Fortitude Valley

Brisbane breakfasts don’t come more in demand than at Harveys. Much-loved for its enviable location and classic dishes, opt in to their deliciously creamy porridge with poached fruit and toasted nuts.

Mondo Organics

South Brisbane

Not into sweet breakfasts? Mondo Organics have done it again, this year coming up with this beauty of a brekky dish; savoury outs with mushroom, garlic, almond milk and watercress. Hug-in-bowl goodness.

Merriweather

South Brisbane

Local sourcing champions, Merriweather have aced their annual porridge offering, combining creamy oats with roasted pear, ginger, and raw bush honey. Ah-mazing!

Morning After

West End

A must-try on any Brisbane foodies brekky bucket list, Morning After offers up some much-needed creativity in a humdrum world of avo on toast. Try their spiced black rice pudding with poached fruit and finger lime (we know, we know it’s not technically porridge!), to mix things up a bit.

Spring Hill Deli Cafe

Spring Hill

An oldie but a goodie, Spring Hill Deli Cafe know that in winter, you always crave hearty bowls of oats. Try their baked oatmeal with apple and berries, Greek yoghurt and maple syrup, it’s guaranteed to warm you up in a flash.

Wild Canary

Brookfield

A beautiful spot to have any kind of sustenance, tuck in to Wild Canary’s coconut lime brown rice pudding with fresh fig, coconut and dragon fruit with passionfruit ice cream. No, not technically porridge, but it’s one seriously tasty wild card!
