By Phoebe Grealy - 04 Oct 2015

We’ve teamed up with Peroni to bring you our What’s Trending hit list: your monthly guide to maximising life in the city. We’re cutting through the chatter and counting down our top 10 hottest new openings, events, and trending happenings in Melbourne this month, so you won't miss a thing.

Brisbane, we know you love to get out and about and stay one delicious step ahead of the curve. So if you’re in need of the newest gluten free donuts, sunny craft beer garden or swanky date venue, we’ve got the hit list for you. Here’s our take on everything you should be eating, seeing, doing and Instagramming this month. Let’s go!

#1 Baker Extraordinaire Jocelyn Hancock To Open Cake & Bake

Brisbane baking queen Jocelyn Hancock is back! From the woman who brought us the iconic Jocelyn’s Provisions (and the to-die-for chocolate and sour cream pound cake) comes Cake & Bake in West End. A haven of seasonal homemade goodies to tempt every tongue, all the edible treats at this soon-to-be-opened gem will be made from produce will be sourced from around Braeside, where Jocelyn grew up. And the best news is, she’ll also be opening the doors for cooking classes to teach us her baking secrets.

#2 The Italian Film Festival Comes To Town

Take note film buffs: the Italian Film Festival is landing in Brisbane, pronto! This year’s line up promises laughter, tears, suspense and, naturally, smouldering Italians aplenty. Showing across various Palace Cinema venues from the 1st of October to the 18th October, there are 32 of the best films to come out of Italy in recent times. Check out the full line up of films here to get your slice of la dolce vita.

#3 Let Minnow Café Opens in Old Aquarium

Housed in what was once the Clayfield Aquarium, recently-opened Brisbane brunch spot, Let Minnow Café, is the new squid on the block. As you would guess there are a number of fresh fish options among the modern Australian menu (we’re talking tasty sardines with soft boiled eggs and pan-fired fish tacos) along with top local coffee and big tin milkshakes.

#4 Bao Down Now Opens For Late Night Asian

Handmade baos, teapot cocktails and food on offer until 2am? Yes please! All our late night dilemmas have been answered with hip new Chinatown venue, Bao Down Now. More lounge bar than restaurant, this new venue offers cool music along with fluffy light baos filled with karaage fried chicken, seared marinated beef and fried tofu and shiitake mushroom.

#5 Are Scrolls The New Donut?

Let’s be perfectly frank here, our attention span is short and we can jump on the latest trend in a matter of minutes. But while we’ve ‘been there, done that’ with cupcakes, embraced and then said au revior to macaroons and lined up for and then left our obsession with cronuts: are we really ready to move on from our beloved donuts? Our sweet-o-meter says maybe it’s time sink our teeth into a new baked treat and hot on the agenda are scrolls.

#6 Mi + Mian Opens In Bakery Lane

Brought to us by the owners of Fat Dumpling comes Mi + Mian and some of the most authentic Chinese food you will find in Brisbane. With pork buns, rice bowls and noodle soup on the menu, this new hole-in-the-wall joint in Bakery Lane will have you running, not walking to get a fix.

#7 Spring Means More Delicious Seafood At Gambaro’s

Brisbane’s perfect spring weather has us thinking about the ocean, and, you guessed it, seafood. What perfect timing then for iconic Brisbane seafood restaurant Gambaro’s to launch their spring seafood menu. With all the seafood sourced in Queensland, there’s no better place to enjoy the freshness of Mooloolaba prawns, swordfish, scallops and sashimi in style.

#8 Say Yes To Nodo!

You may be familiar with Nodo’s fine work distributing delicious gluten-free donuts across Brisbane, but this month Nodo Donuts launch their very own bakery HQ in Newstead. The thought of them pumping out racks of blueberry lemon cheesecake with pistachios, white chocolate and raspberry and orange blossom delicious tasties is putting us on cloud nine.

#9 Fitz + Potts Craft Beer Bar To Open in Nundah

Once upon a time, a boy and a girl who thought craft beer and boutique wine were just ace, decided to open up a bar. That boy is Brett Fitzpatrick, that girl is Cassie Potts and their bar is fitz + potts: set to open their doors on October 30 in Nundah. Part dive bar, part beer garden, fitz + potts will be dedicated to showing off the latest small-batch craft beers and Australian wines on the market. To top it all off, there's copious amounts of cheese on the menu.

#10 Corbett + Claude Adds a Sibling Venue in the CBD

What’s better than one excellent Italian restaurant? Obviously, two excellent Italian restaurants. So imagine our glee when we heard that Corbett & Claude was adding a sibling venue in Brisbane’s CBD to their repertoire.  Nestled down an alleyway off Elizabeth Street, Corbett & Claude Brisbane City is inspired by the old Corbett Chambers and features a charming dining hall and a 12-tap craft beer bar. Along with pizzas and small sharing plates, you can build your own charcuterie board. #winning
