Fremantle, you magical beast, you've gone and done it again! New restaurants, cafes and bars as far as the eye can see—it's no wonder about three-quarters of the Perth population would love to call this port city home.
With everything from cronuts and fairy floss ice cream to crumpets and sangas, here are Fremantle's best new openings of 2016. Time to head south for the summer, y’all!
Stable Hands is one of Freo's coolest new coffee spots serving a next level brew and tasty all-day eats. The interior is rustic and downright beautiful with every little detail well thought out. Whether you're after a yummy lunch or a quick coffee on your way to work, the guys here will sort you out.
Sweetwater Rooftop Bar
Stunning views? Check! Incredible food? Check! Cool vibes? Check! Sweetwater Rooftop Bar in East Fremantle seriously has it all—it's no surprise this is one of our favourite new hangouts. The modern Asian menu is phenomenal—think squid ink bao with soft shell crab, avocado and hot sauce, sweet potato fritters and sticky pork belly. The cocktails are incredible too!
Coast on Port Beach is quintessentially West Australian. The vibe is relaxed and casual so you're more than welcome to pop in for a drink straight after a swim, but if you're after something a little more glam take a seat in the restaurant and take your pick from drool-worthy steak, fresh seafood, amazing salads and so much more. The perfect place for a big group catch up or an intimate dinner for two, add this place to your bucket list stat.
Plympton's Coffee Co
Hubble Street's newest coffee spot, Plympton's Coffee Co, serves top notch Toby's Estate coffee, hot chocolates and take away goodies. Get your hands on some of Mr Drummond's tasty organic crumpets, The Holy Bagel Company's yeasty rings of goodness and even an iced espresso soda if you're in need of a buzz that'll also cool you down. Check it out!
Belle K Cronut Bar
Adding more deliciousness to the Fremantle Markets, Belle K Cronut Bar has got something to satisfy every sweet tooth out there with flavours like Nutella, salted caramel, honeycomb and chocolate and passionfruit curd. There are loads of yummy savoury options too, from cronut burgers and pizzas to brekky cronuts and even some salads if you need to up your greens intake. Top that off with some rolled ice cream and you have yourself a meal to remember!
Third Wheel in South Fremantle caught our attention for all the right reasons. Serving up some of the most delicious coffee and even better cakes and cookies we just can't get enough. We're talking Persian fig and butterscotch cake and some pretty rad gourmet sangas and cold brew coffee. Your furry friend is welcome too!
Fairy floss makes everything better so when we heard Cottoni were opening in the Fremantle Markets we were stoked. Soft serve ice cream topped with a swirl of fairy floss and delicious goodies like Oreos, popcorn and sprinkles. What's not to love?
High Street Dispensary
Health-food cafe, High Street Dispensary serve on-the-run brekkies, tasty juices, smoothie bowls, salads and loads healthy snacks (kale chips, anyone?). They make their own granola and coconut yoghurt in-house and the entire menu is gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free, so nothing is off limits! If you're feeling brave, try the mushroom mocha. Yup, there are mushrooms in this, but also cacao, rapadura sugar and coconut milk to sweeten things up a bit.
Freo Supper Club
Finally, there is something to do in Fremantle after the clock strikes midnight (aside from going to Metros). Open and serving top notch nosh from 11pm to 3am, Freo Supper Club is every drunk person’s pre-hangover cure. Think cheeseburgers, corn dogs, chicken wings and booze, of course, we think you’re going to like this place a lot!
Craft beers on tap was about all it took us to get to Percy Flint in South Fremantle, but this place has so much more to offer. From killer cocktails to quality noms and an awesome beer garden, we’ll be spending loads of Sunday sessions here and you should too!
Kazoomies Feel Good Food
For hearty eats and some of the best shakshuka we’ve had the pleasure of tasting, head to Kazoomies Feel Good Food at the E-Shed Markets in Freo. The Northern African and Spanish menu features goodness like dukkah and harissa prawns, Moroccan lamb shanks and quesadillas. Definitely worth the trip south!
We love acai and Acai Brothers in Fremantle certainly knows how to serve up a mean bowl. With flavours like raw Nutella, ain’t nothin’ butter (peanut butter of course) and the popeye which is full of spinach and all sorts of superfoods, you can enjoy these bowls at any time of day (and be left feeling super healthy too.) There are also plenty of smoothies and juices, plus they serve a great cup of coffee.
