As much as we all love a good fry up, sometimes you just want to go out for breakfast and get on with your day, instead of slipping into a grease-fuelled food coma and heading home for a nap.
Lucky for us, Perth is abundant with healthy options when heading for brunch or brekky, with loads of cafes around town serving up fresh, nourishing dishes bursting with organic, plant-based, gluten-free goodness.
When you're next in need of a healthy feed, here are 10 of Perth’s healthiest cafes.
Flora & Fauna
This tiny cafe is a big player on the vegan/vegetarian foodie scene in Perth, best known for their bright, colourful dishes that are as pretty as they are tasty. The menu is as compact as the cafe itself, but packs a punch in the flavour department, featuring dishes like superfood muesli and fresh tomato bruschetta alongside an impressive pressed juice selection.
The Pear’fect Pantry
Hidden away behind a laundromat off Herdsman Parade is where you’ll find the sunny courtyard belonging to The Pear’fect Pantry, where a quick glance at the menu reveals an array of healthy vegan, non-vegan and gluten-free options. There’s also a cabinet full of delicious takeaway treats for those on the go, and the nearby Herdsman Lake provides the perfect outdoor setting for an impromptu picnic.
Dunn & Walton
Dunn & Walton can easily be defined as a one-stop-shop for all things healthy living, selling certified organic fruit, vegetables and dry goods alongside their vegetarian kitchen where they make everything from scratch using their own store as the pantry. They also offer advice on recycling and growing your own food, and even have a home delivery service with weekly specials.
This quaint suburban cafe has been quietly dishing out some of the healthiest food in town since 2008, and there’s no sign of them stopping any time soon. Owned and managed by a husband and wife team passionate about healthy food and great coffee, Esprezzo is the kind of place that practically runs on good vibes. Expect dishes like fluffy buckwheat pancakes and pumpkin smash, organic coffee and fresh juices.
The Organic Circle
With a focus on living a healthy, natural lifestyle, The Organic Circle is a food store and cafe in one, with a huge range of organic groceries, fresh produce, local meats and earth-friendly household items. The cafe serves 100% organic and wholefood dishes that are made fresh daily using all local ingredients, and caters for all types of dietary requirements including paleo.
Manna Wholefoods & Cafe
Having been on the scene since 1988, it would be fair to say that Manna Wholefoods & Cafe is the OG when it comes to healthy eats in Freo. We love browsing the colourful produce and stocking up on bulk wholefoods before grabbing a seat at the cafe for a delicious healthy breakfast. The crushed avocado, semi-dried tomato, pickled onion and super seeds vegan brekky slider is a real winner in our books.
Gratias Organic Cafe
Environmentalism and healthy living join forces at Gratias Organic Cafe, where they’re serving up certified organic, fully plant-based menu in a clean green space. It’s easy to see just how passionate the owners are about keeping our planet, minds and bodies nourished by the love they put into each and every plate of food.
Little Shop of Plenty
Little Shop of Plenty is the kind of place you can lose a lot of time—their sunny courtyard is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a lazy breakfast free from dairy, refined sugar and gluten. Every ingredient here is carefully considered for its health benefits and flavour, resulting in delicious flavour combinations you’re unlikely to come across anywhere else. Try the Moroccan spiced sweet potato smash with leafy greens and turmeric sauerkraut—you won’t be disappointed.
Pearth Organic Kitchen
One of those places where you feel special when you manage to nab a table, Pearth Organic Kitchen is tiny-but-mighty in the organic food game, offering a thoughtful menu that caters for vegans, meat-eaters, and everything in between. You won’t find anything processed here, just fresh natural wholefoods bursting with fresh flavours.
Victoria Park, Fremantle and Northbridge
With a worldwide following and an ethos of ‘peace begins on your plate’, Loving Hut is a vegan cafe and mini-mart in one, where you can find anything from homemade vegan pies to egg-free cakes and vegan dog treats. Service here always comes with a smile, and you can’t help but feel the love coming through in the food. Everything here is outrageously tasty, but stick a bagel in front of us and we’re done.
