How To Have The Ultimate Day In Wembley

By Chloe Sputore - 31 Aug 2016

Lately it’s been all about Leederville, Highgate, Northbridge and Mount Lawley, but we’re here to remind you of an awesome Perth suburb that is filled with killer cafes and restaurants, awesome bars, cute shops and pampering palaces, that’s as close to the beach as it is to the city—Wembley.

We’ve teamed up with Urban On Cambridge, Perth’s coolest place to call home, to bring you a choose your own adventure style day in this beautiful ‘burb.

Here’s how to have the ultimate day in Wembley.

Work Up A Sweat

Lake Monger

One of the most beautiful lakes in Perth (with an epic view of the city to boot!), if you’re having the ultimate day in Wembley you can’t pass up a visit to Lake Monger. Set yourself up right for a day of drinking and dining and walk, run or cycle the 3.8km loop. It’s much easier to workout when you’ve got some stunning eye candy.

The Mind Body Heart Store

If you prefer to salute the sun, head directly to The Mind Body Heart Store, your wellness one-stop-shop. They’ve got yoga and Pilates classes on offer, but why not give a chakradance class a go for something a little different?

Don’t Forget The Most Important Meal Of The Day

‘Pear’fect Pantry

You’ll find loads of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free goodness at the ‘Pear’fect Pantry in Wembley. They serve all your regular breakfast staples (yes, meat fans, you can get bacon here too) as well as things like Boston baked eggs, sweet potato fritters and pumpkin bread. You can opt to eat breakfast in the garden or head over to Herdsman Lake nearby and have a breakfast picnic. Breakfast ‘pear’fection? We think so!

Lawley’s Bakery Cafe

If carb-loaded brekkies are more your bag, head to Lawley’s Bakery Cafe. We go bananas for their French toast made with white pagnotta bread and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, as well as their dense fruit toast. Pancakes fans, fear not, you can get your fix of light, fluffy goodness here too—there’s even Nutella filled pancakes! If you’ve only got time for a quick breakfast, grab one of Lawley’s buttery, delicious pastries and a coffee to go.

Ingredient Tree

With a simple and delicious breakfast menu, Wembley locals love the Ingredient Tree on Herdsman Parade. They’ve got muesli, toast, croissants, pancakes and eggs any way you like them, as well as a tasty breakfast bagel and yummy quinoa patties with poachies. The coffee is by Genovese and they also serve freshly brewed chai, a very luscious Belgian hot chocolate (in white, milk or dark), Teadrop teas and smoothies by Charlies. And it’s not called the ingredient tree for nothing—you can pick up all sorts of gourmet goodness here including nougat, chocolate, conserves, specialty sauces and more.

Get Your Fix Of Coffee And Sweet Treats

Workshop Espresso Cafe

Bike nerds and coffee nerds come together at Workshop Espresso Cafe where you can get your two wheeler tuned up AND top up your caffeine intake for the day. Aside from great coffee, they serve a bunch of sweet treats like banana bread, muffins and brownies, as well as some more substantial goodies like sandwiches, rolls, tarts and some especially delicious pork and fennel parcels.

Mooba

Everyone’s favourite local roasters 5 Senses have created a custom brew just for Mooba, and it’s unbelievably good—a rounded body coffee with a very welcoming chocolate after taste. Mooba also serve up goodies from The Sugarless Bakery, Top Dup Doughnuts and tasty slices from Mumma’s Sweet Lies, plus Toastface Grillah, aka the best toasted sandwich artists in Perth, can sometimes be found toasting up cheesy delights at this joint too!

Coffee Table Biscuits

Who doesn’t love a good old biccie with their coffee? The guys here handcraft gourmet biscuits using quality, natural ingredients and no preservatives. Whether you prefer shortbread, Afghans, biscotti or melting moments, Coffee Table Biscuits have got something for everyone. Plus, they frequently donate to the Dogs’ Refuge Home of WA, what legends!

Refuel With A Delicious Lunch

Flipside

Wembley totally lucked out in the burger department! Flipside, aka one of our favourite burger joints in Perth, are open for lunch Monday to Sunday—so you can get your burger fix every day of the week if you wanted to. We love the QVB with prime beef, crispy bacon, tasty cheddar cheese, free range egg and beetroot and the Taxi CAB with free range chicken breast, fresh avocado and crispy bacon. We’ve also spotted a newbie on the menu which we can’t wait to try, the Williamsburg—a toasted milk sesame bun filled with prime beef, Monterey jack cheese, McClure’s pickles, mustard and mayo. Yum!

Cambridge Forum International Food Court

Not much to look at we know, but Asian food aficionados know to head directly to the Cambridge Forum International Food Court for authentic, delicious oriental eats. We love hitting up Wembley Dim Sum for, you guessed it, dim sum, and Malaysian Hawker for their tasty laksa, chicken rice and kueh teow soup, but if you’re in the mood for Vietnamese, Indian or Japanese they’ve got that too. Can we just move in already?

Treat Yourself To Something New

Life Less Ordinary

Beautiful homewares, jewellery and gifts can be found at Life Less Ordinary. Grab your daily brew from Workshop Espresso next door and then treat yourself to something pretty.

The Herdsman

Unfortunately, grocery shopping is part of our daily lives, but it’s not all about the big chain supermarkets, people. The Herdsman is one of the best gourmet supermarkets in Perth and with a deli, bakery, butcher and florist, there’s no way you’re leaving empty handed. We’ve been told the staff here try each and every one of the products stocked to give it their tick of approval—can we get a job here please?

Et Seq Fashion

Pick up something new to wear to dinner or drinks tonight at Wembley’s best clothing boutique, Et Seq Fashion. Stocking top brands like Shona Joy, Grace and Heart, Superga and Mesop, you’re guaranteed to find something amazing to wear.

Relax And Get Pampered

Bodhi J

What kind of ultimate day doesn’t include some pampering? Inspired by nature, Bodhi J in Wembley is one of our fave places to undergo some serious pamper time in Perth. The crew here offer a full suite of spa treatments for men and women using all organic products from Sodashi and Li'tya. If you’re looking to bliss out, the spa journey packages are where it’s at. Our pick would have to be the seven hour long Bodhi’s Nature Escape package, because we’re greedy like that!

Spoilt Hair Retreat

If your mane is in need of taming, you can get your ‘do whipped into shape by the crew at Spoilt Hair Retreat. They’re full bottle on all the latest styles including ombre, pastel hair colours, Olaplex colouring and braiding.

Go For A Tipple

The Wembley Hotel

Recently renovated, The Wembley Hotel is one of our favourite places to grab a drink with friends in this ‘hood. Whether you’re catching up with mates or watching the footy, there’s plenty of good times to be had here, with loads of beers on tap, a killer wine list and delish wood fired pizzas.

The Stanley

A fave among Wembley locals, The Stanley is perfect for that much needed mid-week wine, a date night pre-dinner drink or even a catch-up with friends. The setting will remind you of sitting in your Grandma’s living room (in a good way) and the best bit? Next door neighbours Flipside will deliver you a burger without you having to leave your comfy couch. Now there's a plan!

Top Off Your Day With Dinner

Hermosa Cantina

Equally delicious for breakfast and lunch, Hermosa Cantina really comes alive at dinner time. Serving Spanish-inspired eats like cauliflower cheese and morcilla croquettes, duck and beetroot paella and half shell scallops cooked over coals and served with tomato and chorizo crumble, it’s a must visit spot if you’re having the ultimate day in Wembley. These guys also have a good selection of local and imported wine and beer, alongside a curated list of cocktails to keep your thirst quenched.

Blue Spoon

If the ultimate day for you means eating a delicious gourmet dinner on the couch, there is no better place to go than Blue Spoon. You can grab a pre-cooked meal like lasagne, herb crusted barramundi, calamari and chorizo linguini, or massaman curry, plus there’s loads of fresh and tasty salads to choose from, family pies and dessert of course! Grab a bottle of vino from the Liquor Barons down the road, queue up the Netflix and you have yourself the perfect evening at home.
