It’s a blessing and a curse being made the office events coordinator. A blessing in that you get to spend your Friday afternoon scrolling through Pinterest boards for inspiration with the knowledge that you don’t have to pay with your own hard earned dollies, but a curse in that the pressure is on to deliver something that your boss approves of and that your colleagues actually want to go to.
From hidden Federation style boardrooms and exclusive dining tables to industrial hipster warehouses and creative workspaces, these are the best Perth venues available to hire to make your next work function bearable, even if you can't stand 90% of your colleagues.
Perth City Farm
With four different spaces to choose from, it’s not all about weddings at Perth City Farm. We’re personally loving the courtyard and community room for a smaller get togethers—the herbs, veggies and flowers for sale are just an added bonus! You’ll need to organise your own catering, furniture and lighting here but the team are more than happy to help.
The Bell Tower
Not many places offer a 360 degree view of Perth and the Swan so if ‘wow’ is what you’re after, look no further. The Bell Tower has three spaces available for functions including the observation deck and the glass foyer. This is a BYO food and drink situation (though they work with some fab caterers should you need some suggestions) and we've heard on the grapevine there’s a dance floor on offer should things escalate!
The Ferguson Foundry
Nestled in the heart of Maylands is a versatile creative space that has rustic charm all over it. If it’s a working long table lunch you’re after, you'll just need to organise a caterer, otherwise, for a day of team building, workshops or classes, this industrial fit out covered in art out has you sorted.
PS Art Space
It doesn’t get more contemporary than this 1907 two story brick and iron industrial building on Pakenham Street. Unmodified since its original construction, the sheer size of this space makes it one for the bigger crowds. But you better get in quick—available dates at PSAS come and go like hot cakes.
Subiaco Arts Centre
Boasting ten spaces for hire, we challenge you to not find the perfect one for your work function. All the spaces come with a team of technicians so we’re feeling this for a conference, presentation or workshop kinda day (just remember to BYO snacks!)
Corporate organisations are among the lucky few that are eligible to hire The Ballroom at Government House (oooh la la). Built in 1899, even the Queen has visited! If you’re working at one of those fancy offices that will go all out then is for you. Black tie, chandeliers and grand piano anyone? Well if it’s on the company credit card... Don’t mind if we do.
Whatever’s on the agenda, this is likely to be the best fit for all offices in and around the Freo area. With that view, you won’t care about having to sort yourself out for catering and equipment and if you want to kick on after, Bathers Beach House is so close it would almost be rude not to stop by!
The Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery
Within the gorgeous grounds of UWA is the light filled Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, right beside the sunken gardens. The team on standby will help you put together any style of function in one of their four available spaces and the on site catering team, Guild Catering will ensure every glass and stomach is full, making your job nice and easy!
If all you really want in life is to be in Brooklyn but the lack of annual leave is getting in your way, then Fridays Studio is the answer. This may not be the best place for the ultra corporates of the world, but the blank canvas is a textural dream for the more creative workplaces out there wanting to do something a little different.
COMO The Treasury
Need to impress clients, host a formal afternoon tea or show off that presentation you’ve been working on? COMO’s lounge or boardroom is the place to do it for CBD folk. Plus if you want food included, it’s coming out of the Post kitchen so you know it’s going to be a winner!
Whether you’re a group of 10 or 100, for a formal luncheon or a cocktail party after work, The Heritage can accommodate. You know the food and wine are going to be off the charts so if this is an ‘all expenses paid’ type thing, put on your lippy or tie and call it a day.
WA Rowing Club
Overlooking the Swan River and onto the city skyline is the state-heritage listed River Room within the WA Rowing Club. The team work alongside Delicious Catering for any style of function of just about any size.
While we're on the subject of work, here are 29 things you're workmates wish you would stop doing.
