By Gabbi Johnston - 18 Jan 2016

brisbane's best scrolls

New year, new sweet trends? Donuts took 2015 by storm, so by the end of the year you could buy any delicious type of donut you wanted on every second street. We came, we ate, we instagrammed, and now that we’re addcited to donuts we’re wondering what will be our next sweet obsession?

America brought the humble cinnamon scroll to life, but being Brisbane, we tend to take things to a whole new level. We’ve made our way around the city to all our favourite bakeries and unveiled the best and most extraordinary scroll flavours to date.

From salted caramel versions to cookies and cream, here’s where to find Brisbane’s best scrolls so you can leave the donuts, or let’s be honest, buy both…

#1 Salted Caramel Scroll

Red Hill Markets | Red Hill

Nothing tops off a weekend trip to the markets like a Salted Caramel Scroll. Only available on Sunday at the Red Hill Markets, you’ll be thinking about it all week!

#2 Cookies and Cream Scroll

Mr Scroll | Hamilton

Only available at Eat Street Markets, Mr Scroll is the master of scrolls, offering a range of flavours including their impressive Cookies and Cream scroll.

#3 Pumpkin Pie Cinnamon Buns

Bake Plant Based | Fortitude Valley

Everything at Bake Plant Based is handmade with the most organic and locally sourced ingredients, and their scrolls are no exception! Their latest scroll concoction is a spiced pumpkin dough filled with date and maple syrup caramel and topped with pecans.

#4 Blueberry and Sultana Scroll

Flour & Chocolate | Morningside

Flour & Chocolate pride themselves in their array of sweet treats, ranging from donuts to gonuts (their version of cronuts – a cross between croissants and donuts) and everything in between. Their scrolls are on point though, bringing out flavours like white chocolate, salted caramel, and our personal favourite, the blueberry and sultana scroll.

#5 Cinnamon and Vanilla Scroll

Banneton Bakery | Woolloongabba

In the hub of Woolloongabba is Banneton Bakery and their collection of early European-inspired pastries including an ever-changing range of scrolls, including their adaption of the classic cinnamon scroll with a generous drizzle of their vanilla syrup.

#6 Brioche Scroll with Raisin and Creme Patisserie

Cake & Bake | West End

Cakes and sweet treats are Cake & Bake's specialty, which means an abundance of pastries, cakes and our favourite, scrolls. If you’re in for breakfast, Cake & Bake do a delicious Brioche Scroll with Raisin and Crème Patisserie.
