Right now might well be the best time of year in Brisbane. It's not too hot, those crazy summer storms (aka mini cyclones) haven't yet set in, the jacarandas are out, and there's an influx of cool pop-up events on that really make the most of our climate. And none more so than Ben and Jerry's Open Air Cinema!
This great event is back at Southbank's Cultural Forecourt (that's near the Wheel of Brisbane) and they're promising music by day, and movies by night. The line up (we think) is awesome. You've got cult classics, the latest new releases, and some award winners thrown in for good measure.
We're looking forward to seeing Frances Ha at the opening night this Sunday (you can buy tickets here), and will probably revisit the Swayze-swoon-fest that is Dirty Dancing, too. Note, the little ones, or those who have a thing for Christopher Plummer when he was Captain von Trapp, can catch The Sound of Music on Sunday November 17.
And, another thing, given that this is a Ben and Jerry's event you'd hope ice cream plays a part and, yes, yes it does. You can buy it at the venue along with other delights (Vespa Pizza and drinks!) BUT, on a Sunday, it comes free as part of their 'Sundae Sessions'. Also on a Sunday, you get to listen to a live set ahead of your session's screening (Emma Louise is confirmed for this Sunday).
Free icecream and free live music? Sold? We thought so. Because movies in the night air, on a beanbag with Ben and Jerry (who even needs a date when these two dudes are around) is time well spent.
