During winter, Sundays are filled with dread about the weekend ending and having to head back to work, but come summer, Sunday might just be our favourite day of the week. When the sun is shining, Sunday is a fun day and no one at work will blame you for being a little bit dusty, because it would be un-Australian not to make the most of that glorious weather with your nearest and dearest and a cider or two.
Our mates at Somersby know this all too well, which is why we’ve teamed up with them to find you Brisbane's best Sunday sessions. So gather your friends and make the most of every last drop of your weekend—and keep an eye out for some of our fave Somersby stockists in the line up.
Our Top Cider Picks
If you're keen to kick back with a Somersby cider in hand, these venues have you covered.
Eleven Rooftop Bar
Eleven Rooftop Bar is the perfect spot for a sunny Sunday sesh in Brisbane, with a cider in hand. The sandstone rooftop bar has an almost 360 vista of Brisbane, so you can sip on Somersby ciders while remembering how much you love this fair city. As well as having our fave selection on tap, they also have a delicious tapas menu on offer too because Sundays are for good food. Pick a booth and while away the afternoon in the sunshine, why don’t you!
Elixir Rooftop Bar
Elixir Rooftop Bar fits the bill for secret bars pretty well. Hidden door way? Check! Lush greenery to make you feel miles away from Brisbane? Check. Somersby to sip on to your hearts content? Check and check! Elixir is a beautiful rooftop bar with a relaxed vibe perfect for a chill Sunday. Sit sky-high and forget you’re right in the heart of Brisbane as your pray Monday forgets to come, just this once.
The Defiant Duck
The Defiant Duck isn’t just your average burger spot. Nope, their burgers are far from average; they’re some of Brisbane’s best. But, their Sunday sessions are unrivalled. With air hockey, wings, beers, and most importantly, ciders, you’re Sunday really isn’t complete without stopping by The Defiant Duck. If you’re yet to experience a Sunday at The Duck what have you been doing? For shame!
Blackbird Bar & Lounge
If you think about it, Blackbird was made for Sunday sessions. Their position on the Brisbane river makes for perfect Sunday sesh-ing. It’s sunny, breezy and beautiful. We can’t think of another way we’d like to spend a Sunday. Plus, with cider and dry-aged beef on the menu we’re pretty much in heaven.
Sunday sesh on the river, anyone? If a Sunday sesh riverside (with a cider in hand, duh!) sounds like heaven to you, you'll want to check out Byblos. Add in a side of tapas and boom - you're good to go! The place is middle-eastern themed so expect a set-up kind of like Alladin's cave. Best Sunday ever?
The Best Of The Rest
While cider might not be on the menu, here are a heap of other Sunday session venues that we love.
Watt Restaurant & Bar
Watt Restaurant & Bar do Sunday sessions right. You can’t get closer to the river than this (go on, try—we dare you!). A Sunday spent ‘laxing in New Farm Park followed by a sesh at Watt Restaurant & Bar sounds just about perfect to us. But if you add cider? We’re sold.
Soleil Pool Bar
Summer’s biggest setback is that we just don’t have a pool or a bar at our house. Soleil Pool Bar fixes both of these problems. Yep, that’s a roof top bar with a pool. Did someone say nailed it? It’s pretty much bar goals, so get amongst it— chilled cider in hand, of course!
Lock 'N' Load
Lock 'N' Load has ‘Sunday Session’ written all over it. Fries, cider and sunshine? Sign us up, please! Hang out in the courtyard and surround yourself with good vibes, great chat and sunshine as your prepare yourself for Monday. Sorry, we had to say the M word.
Darling & Co
Darling, this is the Sunday Session you’re looking for. Trust us. Light open spaces, hanging plants—this place is indoor plant goals, seriously—and a bar that is just waiting and ready to whet your whistle, makes Darling & Co our regular Sunday calling port. Cider, oysters and sunshine. Err, yes please. Obviously.
Lokal + Co
We love Lokal + Co because its set up makes us feel like we’re at home. Except a home that’s way, way cooler than ours because we unfortunately weren’t born as Scandinavians and thus, inherently cool. Unlike Lokal + Co. Ciders in their sun-dappled courtyard and oodles of Scandinavian charm make this place our go-to.
Sixes And Sevens
Come on, now. Did you really think that we’d leave Brisbane institution, Sixes and Sevens, off this list? Of course not! Pull up a chair in their sprawling courtyard on James Street, order some poutine—yes, this is where you can get it in Brisbane!—and sip on your cider as you enjoy arguably one of the best Sunday seshs’ in Brisbane.
