5 Nail Trends About To Take Off, According To A Nail Artist

From nostalgic tie-dye and retro graphics to glittery half-dips and modern French tips, get ready to elevate your look by making your nails your best accessory yet.

We teamed up with La Diva founder and nail artist Maria—who boasts over 25 years experience in the nail and beauty game—to bring you five of the most coveted and eye-catching nail trends that are bound to blow up your 'Gram feed.

#1 Negative Space

This look is minimalist and maximalist all at the same time. Whether it’s sparkly half-dips or sweeping thin, barely-there lines across the base and tip of the nail, the negative space trend makes a massive impact. It’s also proof you can have short nails and nail art. We’re here for it.

#2 French Tips

Serving us peak nostalgia, the French tip is back but with a very modern overhaul. Sure, we’ve seen celebrities like Bella Hadid rock the iconic nude base and white tip, but we’re seriously coveting French tips with a pop of colour. Soft pink or electric blue will add a modern spin on this classic style and are a fun way to inject a little colour into an understated look. The best part about this reinvigorated look? It’s convenient. “French tips are super low maintenance because the grow-out process is so much easier than solid shades,” Maria says. We love a win-win.

#3 Retro Graphics

From butterflies and fruit bowls to rainbows and ladybugs, you need to add these looks to your nail art rotation. Layer retro graphics over a fresh white, pearlescent pink or clear gel manicure and you’re good to go. Maria says ‘90s throwbacks are huge right now, so any old-school look gets the cool-girl seal of approval.

#4 Tie-Dye

Nearly every major runway this year had a nod to nostalgia, but one trend that particularly caught our eye was tie-dye—and it’s about to hit your nail beds. Less psychedelic and more muted, the nail art version of the trend is a kaleidoscopic pop of colour that goes with pretty much anything. Steal a page from Kylie Jenner or Gigi Hadid’s stylebook and try the look for yourself, just be sure to ask for pastel colours like millennial pink, sunny yellow or dreamy lilac to nail the look.

#5 Muted Nude

Some might say barely-there nails are counterintuitive but Maria says it’s all about nailing that sexy, polished look. “If you’re the type who prefers an understated aesthetic over bold colour-blocking, nude nails are your new go-to.” From blush tones to deep tans, muted nude nails will seamlessly take you from the boardroom to the bar.
