Fans of New Farm cafe Miss Jones will want to plan an excursion to the other side of the river soon, because this pastel-hued cafe has a brand new sibling, and it’s one worth venturing south for.
Bringing peachy interiors and some seriously snappable breakfasts to Hawthorne, Sister Cafe doubles up on the chilled vibes and creative brunches that made Miss Jones an instant hit, but also brings a few quirky characteristics of its own. Wooden picnic tables line the pavement outside, while cosy nooks topped by hanging greenery line the walls inside, with a shared table in the middle. And as suggested by the whimsical illustration out front, puppies are more than welcome here, so bring your four-legged friend along.
We know it’s really the breakfast fare you want to hear about though, and trust us when we say you’ll want to be back more than once for everything on the menu. Envy-inspiring dishes like breakfast gnocchi with mushroom ragu and bacon crumb and gingerbread waffles with cinnamon custard and honeycomb gelato are definitely the stars of the show, but there’s also some spruced up classics like Asian-style pork-belly benedict served on potato hash and smashed avo on toast with corn cream.
For lunch you’ll find the likes of cauliflower tacos and wagyu cheeseburgers on the menu, but don’t worry, brunch lovers—the breakfast menu is available all day long. Gnocchi is an all-day food anyway, right? Coffee comes courtesy of Sydney roasters Single O (and be sure to check out the gorgeous peach hued La Marzocco machine pouring it while you’re there), with cold-pressed juices and hot chocolates on the drinks list for non-caffeinated types.
So, who’s up for making the trip south? Sister Café is open 6.30am-3.00pm weekdays and 7am-2.30pm on weekends.
