ICYMI, we like food. We like it a lot. But we also recognise that we’re some of the luckiest ducks around and there are plenty of people around the world who don’t get to experience life’s little luxuries. In fact, 795 million people in the world live in hunger and poverty. That’s a pretty astonishing figure, and it’s why we’re pretty passionate about The Hunger Project’s Unleashed Women initiative.
Unleashed Women is all about empowering communities, and women in particular, who are living in poverty by giving them the resources they need to become self-reliant. How? By providing quality healthcare to mums and bubs, helping to keep young girls in school and providing financial training and loans so these women can start their own businesses.
And guess what? You can help—by eating a ridiculously decadent dessert. True story. We’ve teamed up with the legends over at Chester Street Bakery to come up with the Unleashed Black Forest Ice Cream Cake for you guys. That's a devil sponge layered with chocolate ice cream and cherry sorbet, with glazed cherries in the middle, rounded with milk ice cream then covered in shaved chocolate and topped with glazed cherries. Wow! It will set you back $14.95 for a slice, or if you want to go all out you can get a petite, medium or large cake for $49, 82 or $110 respectively. For every slice or whole cake sold, The Urban List will personally donate the equivalent amount to The Hunger Project’s Unleashed Women Initiative. So you can have your cake and eat it too—because it’s all for a good cause! It’s only available from Friday 22 to Thursday 28 September, so get there stat!

Editor’s Note: The Hunger Project is a cause extremely close to our hearts. We have committed to donating up to $6,000 in support of their Unleashed Women initiative and we are so thankful to all those who also show their support, whether through dessert, fundraising or awareness. You guys are awesome.
