June is shaping up to be a knee-slapper of a month, with more new eats, fresh beats, cool finds, and Brisbane events to explore than could possible be healthy.
Get your scarves out of storage kids, ‘cause there’s no shortage of things to do around town. Here are our top 10 things to do in Brisbane this month. That’s June sorted.
10. Get Lost In The Tree House
Y’all went mental when we told you Peter-Pan themed café, The Lost Boys, opened in the Valley, so the subsequent arrival of adjacent vegan bar, The Tree House, is surely cause for celebration. Inside this tropical island reprieve you’ll find organic, locally-sourced wines, spirits, and beers, vegan and gluten-free tapas, and a decidedly Never Land feel. Organic booze is better for you, right? Peter, you can fly!
9. Check Out Locavore Café
The local-love just keeps on flowing in Brisbane with the arrival of Locavore Café in Stones Corner. If a feeling of righteousness doesn’t do it for you, rest assured that the local, sustainable food tastes as good as it looks. Daily specials are the go here, and you’ll find local produce like Bee One Third Honey and Marvel Street Coffee Roasters for sale.
8. Ben Lee at Black Bear Lodge
A cute gig in an even cuter bar, Ben Lee is hitting Black Bear Lodge for an intimate performance. Busting out his hits, plus some new stuff, don’t miss this chance to catch one of our national treasures on stage.
When: 5th June, 7:00pm
7. Eat Your Way Around Town at Ari’s Food Safari
Any Brisbane event that involves eating for a good cause is worthy of our attention, and this one’s a doozy. Ari’s Food Safari is a mobile Brisbane foodie event raising funds for the Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. Patrons are transported all over Brisbane in a red, London-style double-decker bus as they stuff themselves silly at some of Brisbane’s best restaurants, kicking off with cocktails at Kwan, starters at Vine, mains at e’cco, and dessert at Chester Street, with plenty of wine along the way, and all wrapping up with an after-party at Alfred & Constance. We’re full just thinking about it.
When: 15th June, 6pm
6. Check Out Kiosk
Bakery Lane is the gift that keeps on giving, and new foodie hole-in-the-wall, Kiosk, is no exception. Tucked in behind Laruche, Kiosk is the newest Moubment Group sibling on the scene, and with Gerard’s Bistro, Bar, and Hatch & Co, and Lychee Lounge in the fam’ you know this new Brisbane café’s got good genes. A café bar slashie, Kiosk is the kind of generous venue that let’s you pair your brekky or lunch with a cheeky cocktail. The menu offers all-day breakfast and lunch options, like salads, sandwiches, but don’t expect your typical fare—Kiosk has taken lunch-next level. Come the weekend, Kiosk hooks up with Laruche and transforms into an outdoor bar, with coconut slushies and other fun naughtiness to be had.
5. All The Shiny Things at Molten Store
Long one of our favourite online stores for stunning, ethereal jewellery and accessories, Molten Store has made our dreams come true by setting up a bricks-and-mortar store on James Street, so we can play with all the pretty shiny things to our hearts content IRL. The stunning all-white space is decked out with such a touchable smattering of wearable goodies it’s impossible to resist getting your bower-bird on.
4. TV on The Radio at The Tivoli
Don’t miss this chance to catch hot US band TV on the Radio in little old Brisbane. Off the back of their fifth studio album, Seeds, TV on the Radio are as influential as ever, and live at The Tivoli for one night only.
When: 10th June, 7pm
3. Skull It Juice
Another new Bakery Lane arrival, Tiki-style drinks cart, Skull It Juice is whizzing up fresh and healthy cold-pressed juices, smoothies, and acai bowls for the health conscious and the hungover.
2. XO Chinese Dinners at Billy Kart Kitchen
Billy Kart Kitchen’s Friday night dinners are the stuff of foodie dreams, and we think it’s high time Brisbane got on board. With a new theme each month (June’s is XO Chinese), Ben O’Donoghue and his crew clearly have a lot of fun coming up with the menus, which never fail to impress. If you’re yet to venture to Annerley to try this cracking Brisbane restaurant, it’s time to get busy—their brekky fare is the stuff of Brisbane breakfast legends.
1. New Food Truck: The Doughnut Time Van
If the lines around the block are anything to go by, new Brisbane doughnut shop Doughnut Time is quite the hit so, naturally, it’s hit the road in the form of The Doughnut Time Van! Making their doughies scarily accessible, punters can keep tabs on this four-wheeled fun machine’s whereabouts on the Doughnut Time Facebook page.
