If you’re worried about putting on some winter hibernation weight (guilty as charged), this might help.
The Sunshine Coast’s cult poke bar, Raw + Rice, has just opened its first Gold Coast store—in Coolangatta.
If you haven’t tried these guys before, trust us—this is rather a big deal. Raw + Rice have kind of exploded over the last couple of years, opening three stores along the Sunny Coast. Ben Glass and James Brust are the brains behind the sustainably forward operation, and they’ve turned poke bowls into a very sexy art form.
Expect a minimal, Scandi-style fit-out (the boys love a bit of brushed concrete), and the best fresh seafood bowl going around.
With their philosophy being “every bowl has a story”, the folks at Raw + Rice take their poke bowl construction very seriously. And the story doesn’t begin when your order your bowl; in fact, it goes all the way back to when the ingredients in your bowl were planted, nurtured and harvested. That’s what makes the food at Raw + Rice so good. Everything is hand-picked, the fish is freshly caught and everything is supplied by local producers. And with so many options, there are endless poke bowl combinations for you to come up with, which is a good excuse to keep coming back.
One of our favourite things about Raw + Rice is the customisable menu—involving everything you need for a healthy winter. Even the non-fish lovers are covered. There’s the option to choose your poke bowl based on a main filling—think: ethically-caught salmon, tuna, white fish, soy tofu or poached chicken—or you can Build Your Own from the base up (brown rice, sushi rice, quinoa or mixed greens). Just add ingredients from mini categories like The Protein, The Freshness, The Sauce and finally The Crunch.
While we it’s true the Gold Coast has no shortage of dedicated poke bowl bars already, when your product is this fresh, locally-sourced and photogenic, we reckon there’s plenty of wiggle room in our healthy, beachside lifestyle for one more.
