Food Sensations Free Cooking And Nutrition Program
Every Friday in May, Perth Airport
Run by the dietitians and nutritionists at Foodbank WA, Food Sensations is a free initiative with a mission to teach you how to eat simple and nourishing food on a budget. From nacho stacks, butter-less chicken, spaghetti, salads and a range of desserts, Food Sensations will also be educating their students on nutrition—from label reading, food safety, meal planning and budgeting. Mojos Open Mic Night
Every Monday, Fremantle
If you’re partial to a Risky Business style lounge room performance or you’re that person that frequently sings in the shower, why not debut your talents at Mojos at their Wide Open Mic night that runs every Monday night? All you need to do is flick them an email to book, invite your mates along for the ride and get in there before 8pm for free entry.
Australian Dance Week Open Classes
Monday 1—Friday 5 May, Perth CBD
Ausdance WA, Act Belong Commit and the City of Perth are teaming up to provide free dance classes every morning and evening this work week. The five day series is led by five contemporary dance gurus, all generously sharing their skills in tango, salsa and hip-hop and providing the perfect opportunity to get a feel for a bunch of different styles in the one spot. Park’d Indie Food Markets
Wednesday 3 and 10 May, Curtin University
Hosted at Curtin University, The Park’d Indie Food Markets are on for their final two rounds on Wednesday 3 and 10 May. Enjoy lunch from one of 12 amazing vendors including Turkish Tucker, Ragin Cajun and Tapasman, with the dulcet tones of some live music in the background providing a treat for the ears. There’s also a free all natural skincare and body workshop hosted by Rennae Carroll from Intentio, where she’ll teach you how to make your own all-natural body scrub, mouthwash and natural care products for your skin type—there’ll also be free samples generously dished out throughout the workshop.
Twilight Festival At City Farm
Wednesday 3 May, Perth City Farm
The Perth City Farm community gardens are hosting their last Twilight Festival on Wednesday 3 May to bring people together over Perth’s best food stalls, from Suppa Club’s delicious soups, Toast My Curry famous curry toasties and Empire Mobile Food’s Turkish goodness—it’s the perfect place for a low-key dinner and entry is free.
Saturday 6 May, University of Western Australia
If you're getting married soon you'd better not miss the Wedding Upmarket at Winthrop Hall at UWA on Saturday. There will be more than 50 local designers showcasing their creative talents, so if you're looking for something a little bit different this is where you'll find it!
Mount Hawthorn Streets And Lanes Festival
Sunday 7 May, Mount Hawthorn
For the third year in a row, the Streets and Lanes Festival brings together local residents, retailers and community groups to celebrate the Mount Hawthorn lifestyle. Showcasing 20 food stalls from around town, 100 creative stalls, five local charities and four stages with live music and entertainment from locals like Swing Zing, Dirty McQueen and The Austin Salisbury Quartet—they’ve left no stone unturned. Entry’s free and you’ll find a range of free events from roller hockey, free juice at the Bodhi Tree and free face painting from 2—4pm to keep the little ones happy.
Free Screening Of That Sugar Film
Wednesday 10 May, Leederville
If you’re yet to watch it, That Sugar Film will be screening for free at Foyer Oxford in Leederville on Wednesday 10 May and it’s an absolute must see for all you sugar addicts out there. Featuring Damon Gameau as his own Guinea Pig, he finds out what happens when consuming seemingly healthy food brands that are full of sugar on a daily basis—it’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you cry and it’ll probably make you give up sugar for at least a couple of days.
Saturday 13 May, Claremont
Hailing from Melbourne, The Flour Market is an annual bake sale showcasing the cities best bakers and their labours of love and it's making its way to Perth this month. Vendors include the likes of Top Dup, Wild Bakery and The Flour Press with coffee lovingly provided by Coffee Pod and will be running on Saturday 13 May at The Goods Shed. If you’re one to indulge in a good croissant or a doughnut, this is a must visit.
Free Yourself From Clutter

Free yourself of clutter for free—sounds good to us. Mindfulness and minimalism are basically the keys to happiness according to just about everyone these days, but if you're still struggling to get rid of that skirt you bought in 2013 which still has the tags on, you might want to get yourself along to this workshop. There will be tips on how to re-use, re-purpose, upcycle and recycle all that stuff you just don't use anymore, so you can live in a clutter free home and be the happiest person around!
