In fact, abide by a few of Andly’s unconventional ‘rules’ and you might just be treated to one of the best degustations in Perth.
Walking into this Chinese-fusion restaurant is a feast for the senses. Tucked away under an apartment block in West Leederville, the intimate restaurant is filled with Chinese wall scrolls, black birdcages and colourful ceramics and cushions. It all makes for a really special dining experience.
Back to those rules. Booking for Andly is done via text, must be made at least 24 hours prior and a 40 percent deposit is required at the time of booking.
When he opened the restaurant mid-way through 2015, Chef and owner Li ‘Andly’ Yuekuan Andly wanted to create a place that would make his customers feel like they were going to a friend’s house, instead of a stuffy restaurant, so there is no set menu. Instead, the degustation menu is completely tailored to each guest and ranges from $100 to $500 a head (the more you pay, the better the ingredients). You can also specify anything you don’t want to eat when making your booking. Want to make your degustation seafood-heavy? Ask for it and be prepared to be blown away with unique dishes featuring yabbies, prawns, scallops, tuna and crab. More of a carnivore? The wagyu dumplings and twice-cooked lamb shanks will be right up your alley.
Heading in for a recent mid-week dinner, we were treated to a degustation that quite frankly blew our socks off. We don’t want to give too much away (we’ve been telling anyone who will listen that they must go try this place for themselves!) but let’s just say our feast involved huge spicy prawns, dumplings, a delectable seafood soup, wagyu beef, braised abalone and crab congee. Every dish was packed full of flavour (and the highest quality ingredients), every dish was exquisite and every dish was presented like a work of art. Tick tick tick!
The perfect spot for a special occasion dinner, you should probably put Andly on your Perth restaurant bucket list if you haven’t already. It’s a winner.
