Participating in the arts is something most of us take for granted, but for plenty of young Aussies it’s not a given. That’s why Daniel Pavlovic, the legend behind Daniel(ink.) t-shirts is teaming up with the Ability Centre (formerly known as the Centre for Cerebral Palsy) to launch the ArtAbility Gala.
Dan has cerebral palsy and a few years back realised he was pretty good at drawing. He did a few illustrations and had them screen printed on to tees and before long all his friends wanted one. That’s how his t-shirt business Daniel(ink.) was born back in 2013. Since then, he has been donating 10% of every sale to the Ability Centre.
You’d think that would be enough for most, but now he is dreaming bigger. After realising that the arts and culture scene just aren’t accessible to many people with Cerebral Palsy and other disabilities, he has set out to raise enough money to create an entire arts centre within the Ability Centre, which is located in Coolbinia.
That’s where the ArtAbility Gala comes into play. All the money raised from ticket sales and a few epic auctions will go towards building the Arts Centre. The tickets include a delicious three-course meal, drinks, music and live entertainment while auction items are coming in thick and fast from local Perth artists. You’ll have the chance to bid on goodies from painters, ceramicists, glass-blowers, jewellers and more, plus there’s a luxe three-night stay in Bali up for grabs, so start getting your money in order now.
You’ve got some time to save up for the auction, the ArtAbility Gala isn’t happening until 16 May, but you’ll want to lock your tickets in now.
If you can’t make it, you can always donate or pick up a shirt from Daniel(ink.).
