Bringing some much-needed vibrancy to the James Street sector of Northbridge, Bangkok Brothers serves tasty Thai-style eats (almost) around the clock. We popped in for lunch on a recent Friday to see what all the fuss was about.
Deceptively large, Bangkok Brothers gives off greenhouse vibes with loads of hanging plants, potted succulents and greenery covering the walls. Clever lighting, wooden details, industrial elements and the plants create an airy, yet cosy feel—it's perfect for intimate occasions or larger catch-ups with friends.
We kicked things off with booze (as you do at Friday lunch) and the tom yum cocktail really wowed. Made with lemongrass, kaffir lime, chilli and vodka, this packs a real punch and left some of us sweating thanks to the chilli hit. That didn't stop us going back for more though.
Next came the crazy wings, dumplings and wagyu Thai beef salad. They were all delicious and we polished them off quicker than you could say pad Thai. Speaking of pad Thai, the one dished up at Bangkok Brothers is perfection—oodles of noodles, fresh coriander and the perfect peanut crunch. We could have easily ordered another.
The real highlight of our unch, though, had to be the rendang lamb shank. Tender, fall-off-the-bone lamb, soaked in a deliciously rich rendang sauce with a side of roti to mop everything up. I'm going back for this alone.
We also tried a tasty tom yum-style broth soup (the kind that could potentially cure a cold) and a salmon dish which one particular member of the group devoured single-handedly (*ahem* we're watching you next time).
Sadly, we were too stuffed for dessert, but that won't stop us next time because there's deep fried ice cream on the menu! We're also keen to head back in for the traditional Thai brekky and stumble in for a late night feed after a few too many bevvies at Mechanics.
For their opening hours, location and all the details, you'll find Bangkok Brothers in The Directory.
