Tucked away in Highgate, Bodhi J is a place I would very much like to call home.
Rushing in on a Friday afternoon, it takes all of 53 seconds for me to calm down and for the day to melt away. For a precious two hours after I step off busy Pier Street into this tranquil oasis, I am in a complete state of calm and relaxation.
Yep, I’ve died and gone to heaven and no, I do not want to return to earth thank you.
Entering Bodhi J’s new Pier Street location is like walking into a grand and beautiful historic house—think exposed brickwork, beautiful lighting, soft neutral decor and the most delicious smelling candles. If there had been a roaring fire in the corner, I wouldn’t have been surprised. It’s cosy, charming, quiet and very, very chilled out.
The spa features nine treatment rooms, all painstakingly renovated and restored, as well as a manicure/pedicure lounge, a relaxation lounge and an outdoor courtyard where you can hang out pre or post treatment. Great care has been taken in designing this day spa and it is in a word: stunning.
Having experienced the Bodhi J style of pampering at their sister spa in Wembley (which was probably my most favourite ever day spa before coming here!), I knew the amazingness of what I was in for and it did not disappoint. I was treated to the Island Escape package—a 30-minute spa bath, followed by a one-hour aromatherapy massage and a one-hour Sodashi pure radiance facial. (Side note: Bodhi J use only two Australian natural and organic skin care ranges here—the incredibly luxurious Sodashi and equally beautiful Li’tya.)
When I enter my treatment room, a fruit platter and glass of bubbles awaits me as I slide into the spa for 30 minutes of relaxation time. I can’t remember the last time I had a bath and it is bliss.
From here, my therapist Chloe (with the magic hands) comes in and gets started on what is basically two hours of indulgence. Did I fall asleep for part of it? Perhaps. Did my skin feel and look incredible afterwards? You betchya! I was in Pamper Town, population: me.
Founded by husband and wife team Tania and Danny Taylor, you can choose from a number of facials, massages, body therapies and beauty services here, and there is also a gorgeous yoga studio, offering Vinyasa flow classes (with only nine spots available per class) throughout the week.
Bodhi J really does feel like a home away from home—albeit the most luxurious home ever. I can’t wait to go back!
