With the changing seasons comes the need to update your makeup essentials. What was deemed ‘essential’ in the summer months is no longer needed when the cold sets in, and there’s no situation where streamlining your makeup bag is more necessary than a winter getaway. Here are the items that we at The Urban List recommend you pack this winter when you jet off on holiday (you lucky thing!).
#1 Moisturiser (with SPF)
Moisturising your skin when it’s cold is the most important thing you can do (‘cos no one wants dry, flaky skin!). But just because you can’t see the sun, doesn’t mean it’s not there. Make sure you pack a moisturiser with added SPF to avoid skin damage and keep your skin hydrated through the harsh winter months.
We love: Dr Jart+ BB cream available from Sephora.
It’s super important to exfoliate your skin every couple of days, especially during the winter months. Exfoliating will remove the layer of dead skin that can cause your skin to look dull, exposing the new, fresh skin and enabling you to look your best, which is always the aim!
We love: Frank Body’s creamy face scrub.
#3 Cream blusher and foundation
The colder seasons and its elements will always dry out your skin, and using a powder foundation or blusher will only highlight this. Go for a cream option of both to create a smooth finish on your skin.
We love: Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and Ciate Blush Pop from Mecca Cosmetica.
#4 Brown mascara
Now that you’ve slightly lost your tan (sob!) black mascara will look too harsh. Opt for a dark shade of brown to keep it natural whilst still creating a bold eye look. Note: ignore this if you have naturally black lashes (lucky you!).
We love: Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Waterproof in brown from Mecca Cosmetica.
#5 Lip balm
A winter essential. Dry lips be gone!
We love: Philosophy's Kiss Me Tonight Intense Lip Therapy from Mecca Cosmetica.
#6 Red lips
When everyone else is shying away from bold colours in favour of blacks and greys, make a statement with a red lip—the perfect way to jazz up a winter outfit.
We love: Rimmel Lasting Finish By Kate Moss
#7 Solid gold
Choose a warm gold shade of nail polish or eye shadow to add a bit of sparkle to your look this winter. Gold won’t contrast too much with your paler winter skin like a smoky eye or navy nail polish might but will instead add warmth to your look.
