Grab your chilli spoons, Brisbane. This weekend, Newstead’s Waterfront Park is hosting the annual Briz-Chilli Fest—a one day party dedicated to all the things your gastro-intestinal system will later regret.
Here’s what you can expect: a centre stage with live tunes, six individual chilli eating competitions, a chilli market named Hellfire Alley, plus dozens of food vendors slinging all kinds of chilli-related goods. God I hope there’s a lot of milk on stand-by.
There’ll also be an endless cavalcade of local and international hot sauces to try, ranging from mild all the way to the Merciless Peppers of Quetzalacatenango.
Or if you prefer our chilli in liquid form, there’s also locally brewed ‘chilli beer’ and chilli cocktails at the aptly named AfterBurn Bar. The organisers are even running a chilli fancy dress competition, although surely there’s only so much you can do when it comes to chilli-themed fancy dress—a red sleeping bag and green hat might win it for you.
Early bird tickets are now on sale for $5, or you can rock up on the day and take your chances (expect queues).
The best bit? Money raised is going straight to support Cystic Fibrosis. Whack on some chilli boots and get around a good cause.
