California Lane has promised top real estate in the heart of the Valley since its opening in 2018, and this Friday, famed Brisbane ceramicist Bonnie Hislop is taking advantage of the premium location to to set up her very own showroom and painting studio in the artistic laneway.
Over the past few years Hislop has garnered a dedicated fanbase, her unique and colourful works (that include rainbow splattered coffee cups, Iced VoVo earrings, and psychedelic cat mugs) offering up a distinct style far removed from the minimalistic, earthy tones currently championed in the industry. Thanks to her sell-out pieces and incredible talent, Hislop's been running workshops and displaying her wares at makers markets all over Brisbane, but this is the first time her following will have a tangible Hislop base to visit.
Besides selling her ceramics, the space will also be used to host workshops, including weekly ‘Themed Thursday’ workshops where painting enthusiasts can come along to flex their creative muscle under a topical theme. The theme for this inaugural class is Pal-entines Day on 14th February, with a Twin Peaks edition on the 21st, and a Pokemon class scheduled for the 28th. If any of these take your fancy you can book a spot online, otherwise stay abreast of upcoming themes by visiting Hislop on her poppin’ Instagram page.
If this sounds like your cup, come down and help Hislop christen the new space at her opening night this Friday 8 February from 5.30pm. Otherwise you can check her out during during business hours Wednesdays through Sundays.
