Some things just go together, like PB and jelly, and Posh and Becks, so this year we’ve teamed up with MINI to bring you, our discerning readers and drivers, our fortnightly MINI Fave 5 series: The must-try guide to Brisbane, celebrating the launch of the new MINI 5-door hatch!
SO WHO'S ON OUR HIT LIST OF BRISBANE'S BEST ICE CREAM SUNDAES?
Remember the feeling of excitement, hearing the Mr Whippy van driving up your street on those long, hot summer days? There was nothing quite like the pure joy of getting your hands on one of those Mr Whippy ice creams and devouring it on your front lawn. Well, now that we’re all grown up and stuff, we can get ourselves an ice cream sundae whenever we please. Every day is Mr Whippy day! Here are a few of Brisbane’s best ice cream sundaes that you just cannot miss.
Who better to serve up an amazing banana split than Southside Diner. If you manage to avoid over-eating on their yummy menu, you’ll find yourself wolfing down spoonfuls of their very decadent sundae. Fresh banana served with ice cream, fudge and marshmallows with toasted pecans, cream and a cherry on top, of course. Holy yum!
Lick! Ice Cream and Desserts
If you love ice cream sundaes you have to visit the flagship store of Lick! at Graceville. These are the guys who supply everyone’s favourite strawberry ice cream to the Ekka each year. They also create sundaes that are not to be missed, including the Banana Lickety Split, of banana, piled high with ice cream and covered in gooey fudge and caramel sauce, finished off with slivered almonds and waffle shards.
Southbank dessert parlour, Gelàre, have you covered with their dreamy menu. Their sundae menu isn’t messing around, either. Of course there’s a hot fudge sundae, served in a waffle basket if you please, but they also offer a hot fudge brownie sundae and a sticky date sundae.
The super awesome deluxe sundae at Kwan Brothers is everything dreams are made of. Read this, then burn it, so nobody else finds out about it. Vanilla bean ice-cream topped with crushed chocolate biscuits and salted butter popcorn, finished with caramel sauce, chocolate fudge sauce and crushed nuts. Burn it. Burn it now.
For a big serve of delicious sundae goodness, get yourself down to Cowch immediately. On the menu you’ll find their amazing banana split, fudge nut sundae and fruit splash sundae. But it’s their pearl berry sundae that is irresistible. Vanilla bean ice cream and two scoops of sorbet topped with whipped cream, strawberry coulis, mochi, pearls, diced strawberries, whipped cream and milk chocolate drizzle.
We're thrilled to partner with MINI to bring you our Fave 5 series—our fortnightly guide to the best of the best in Brisbane.
