It’s the end of an era—iconic fine-dining restaurant Urbane and its sister venues The Euro and The Laneway Bar are closing their doors at the end of the month, with Christmas Day set to be the last service for the beloved Brisbane venue.
The news comes with a personal announcement from owner Andrew Buchanan, who has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. The nature and progression of the condition has made running two very busy dining establishments difficult to manage, and so Andrew has made the heart wrenching decision to close.
“It is not something I have shared or drawn attention to. However, the physical symptoms of MS are now obvious and make running the restaurants tough,” Andrew said. “I would like to thank the incredible team I work with – both in the kitchen and on the floor – who have gone above and beyond to support me and give 150 percent every day.”
Since opening in 2001, Urbane has been wowing diners and winning a swag of hats and awards, so the closure will come as a shock to many.
For those who have yet to experience the incredible fare at Urbane, or even those who have but want a final repeat performance, the venue will be opening Wednesday nights on top of its usual Thursday to Saturday to provide plenty of opportunities for one last meal. They’ll also be dishing up a Christmas Day feast worth skipping your mum’s cooking for, find out more and book here.
