An ill-planned night on the turps can leave you in the throes of a hangry reckoning. Fortunately our city is dotted in foodie havens to sate the beast and really kick those hankerings. We've rounded up the best of quick, affordable, late-night Brisbane dining and matched them to your favourite tipples. Scroll to discover your ideal midnight snack-on-the-town, because there's nothing worse than going home with a full tank on an empty stomach.

Have you been, ale, or cider?

After a hefty stein of bitter bubbles, the best thing to eat is the wurst. Served in a crusty bun with sweet caramelised onions, the kerls at Brat Haus know how to please. These brats hit the kind of sweet spot that warms you all over like an imaginary overcoat.

Where: 34-36 Caxton St, Petrie Terrace and 3/359 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley
Open until: 2am Thu, 5am Fri-Sat

Wine (red or white)

They say you should always line your stomach but dinner was hours ago, I can't find my shirt and those Zombie bowls aren't going to help fill my belly. Perfectly located next to Limes Hotel and Alfred & Constance, stumble into Alfredo's Pizzeria in the wee hours and they'll fix you up with a premium slice from their rosse (red) or bianche (white) pizza menu.

Open until: midnight Sun-Thu, 3am Fri-Sat

Vodka, Gin, or anything with an olive in it

Ladies never drink coloured spirits, and if the Queen was ever in town on a bender, she'd chow down at Statler & Waldorf. There's no doubt this is the place to satisfy the late night cravings of your inner gastronome; the menu at this Brisbane bar runs late and includes a truffled mac and cheese, and roasted bone marrow – late night staples if you ask me.

Open until: midnight Wed-Sun

Flaming Cocktails

Greeks know how to throw a party, so if you wind up at Char Char Yiros there's no doubt you've been celebrating something. You've probably spent the night in wonderment hopping around West End's numerous cocktail bars, but now your wallet's looking empty and your stomach's feeling emptier. When late-night despair takes over, there's nothing finer or cheaper to chomp on than the glorious barbecued offerings of Char Char Yiros.

Open until: 11pm 7 days

Whisky, Bourbon

Alice is all grown up and instead of falling down rabbit holes she's diving down backstreets. Follow her when those shadowy cravings hit and stock up on some of Greaser Bar's late-night offerings. The witchin' hour needs a bitchin' feed, and what better way to complement those Whisky Apples you've been slugging than with some American classics; fried chicken, cheeseburgers and hot dogs – can I get an amen?

Open until: midnight Sun, Wed and Thu, 4am Fri-Sat

Sake, shochu

Cosy and comforting little parcels of moreish flavour are steamed and fried in abundance, then promptly delivered to your table. At Harajuku Gyoza they've got plenty of sake to keep the party going, and the friendly ambience is sometimes just what you need to end the evening on a high note.

Open until: midnight 7 days

Anything and everything else…

Had a tum full of various coloured liquids, and need a soaking stomach liner of some description? Dumplings of a different kind lurk surreptitiously beneath the tarmac. Where Harajuku is minimalist, Brunswick Social, a Brisbane late-night dining fave, likes to show off, boasting a varietal menu of Asian fusion to complement their expansive drinks selection. If you're the kind of drinker who likes a bit of everything, the Brunswick social lets you choose your own adventure.

Open until: midnight Wed-Thu, 3am Fri-Sat
