Coolangatta night spots

Laid back, with just the right amount of buzz, Coolangatta is one of our favourite beachside suburbs to head out after the sun has set. There’s everything from dive bars to wine bars, hotels and surf clubs and even the kind of spots that leave a stamp on your wrist. With that being said, here are our six favourite places to head out after dark for one or two tipples.

Eddie’s Grub House

Don’t be intimidated by the grungy dive bar interior, abundance of pirate beards and anchor tattoos, Eddie’s welcomes anyone and everyone who loves a good burger and a stiff whiskey. Most nights there will be live blues, rock’n’roll and vinyl playlists of local DJs to set the dimly-lit mood. This is absolutely the coolest place to hang well into the early hours. Not only do they have a strong back bar loaded with stiff liquor, they also have craft beer on tap including local fave Stone & Wood. They often have events like Jam nights, karaoke nights, and tap takeovers, where they team up with a beer brand who offers some of their rare and vintage aged beers. Keep an eye on their Instagram so you don’t miss out on the music and mayhem.

Baskk At Kirra Point

Baskk is the ultimate long lunching and after dark-destination that we welcomed with open arms two years ago. Don’t be fooled by the name, it’s technically right on the cusp of Kirra and Cooly, therefore definitely worthy of this list. Baskk truly couldn’t get any more beautiful with an interior inspired by the islands. Decorated with natural earthy tones, rattan, driftwood and whitewashed furniture with and a touch of a sea breeze to remind you of how close to the shore you are. With a license that runs until midnight, live tunes, a cracker of a cocktail menu where you can actually create your own custom concoction and mouthwatering eats, you’ll want to linger long into the night here.

Bin 72

Tucked away in the strand Bin 72 has all the makings for a perfect afternoon and even better evening. A sensational spot to watch the sunset, with ocean views framed by Norfolk Pine trees and the smell of the sea on the gentle breeze. Open until 10:30pm on weekends it’s the perfect place to start your Coolangatta pub crawl, especially with one of their espresso martinis to make sure you actually stay awake late. Line your stomach with some popcorn chicken with spicy mayo and southern fried chicken wings (because eating is not cheating) and work your way through their creative cocktail list. Have you ever tried a Raspberry Amaretto Sour? Shaken not stirred this cocktail will blow your socks off, in a good way of course.

A well-known after-dark destination with a crowd pleasing d-floor, Komune is a unique ocean front beach club that is inspired by the party meccas of Miami and Mexico. If you end up here you can count on waking up with a headache with the beats going until midnight and the bar stocking 16 different tequilas. There’s also an impressive cocktail list with your classics and some special creations, such as the Salted Caramel Espresso Martini, served with a honeycomb crunch. Komune is a one stop shop for sunset drinks lazing by the poolside that could quite easily turn into a Saturday night boogie to Cardi B.

This sweet little wine bar is an absolute must-do with its sleek interior—think moody lighting, exposed brick and dark leather booths. It’s simple, yet sophisticated and just what Griffith Streeet needed. Open seven days from 3pm until late, Tasca is the perfect spot to meet your mates go on a first date or wander in for a post-work drink solo—there’s plenty of stools situated at the bar. Take your pick from 13 different cocktail creations on the petite menu, with our fav the Mumma Fogg, comprised of pure cane rum, mint, brown sugar, lime and coconut. Follow that up with a tipple from their specialised wine list. And don’t even get us started on their late night snacks, think lamb ribs with peach BBQ, kohlrabi and yoghurt.

The Coolangatta Hotel

Last but not least, we couldn’t leave this iconic spot off the list of places to head post sunset. A classic Aussie pub and live music joint, The Cooly Hotel is your last port of call for the night and most certainly the last place open to grab a beverage. Often featuring local and international bands, up-coming DJs you can count on these guys to be throwing an epic party. Offering easy and cheap eats coupled with sensational seaside views, music that plays long into the night, and a raging dance floor once the sun sets, make sure you bay this iconic GC venue a visit.
