When it comes to fashion we love to support local designers, and while you might not know it, there’s definitely no shortage of them in Perth. From sustainable style to in-demand activewear, WA has produced more than its fair share of notable labels worth checking out.
Here are 10 of our favourite brands hailing from Perth.
If you don’t know Poppy Lissiman—and, you absolutely should—then you’ll certainly recognise her designs. Her sunglasses have found a permanent home, perched on the noses of Hollywood’s IT crowd. Everyone from Kylie Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski to Bella Hadid and Ariana Grande has fallen for Lissiman’s quirky style, while her achingly cool bags can often be seen slung on the shoulder of a top model in the pages of Vogue and Elle.
Small batch fashion label Hickey Hardware sews up some incredibly bold, fun wares for men and women. Their matching twin sets are effortlessly stylish, their kimonos are a must have for festival season and they even make functional (and flattering) swimwear.
Designed and made in Perth, _Bais is all about effortless, modern pieces for women that quietly ignore seasonal trends. Each garment is designed to elevate and complete your wardrobe, so you’ll never have another ‘nothing to wear’ moment. The majority of fabrics used are natural, such as linen and hemp, and are cut using a sustainable laser process to reduce fabric waste.
Founded in 2017 by designer Sarina Menzies, Alteva is a sustainable fashion label for women that was inspired by the massive amounts of plastic waste in our oceans. The first collection was made from RPET fibres (recycled PET bottles otherwise destined for landfill) and launched on the runway at the first Eco Fashion Week Australia in Perth. The designs are classic and multi-functional, and serve as a solid foundation for your wardrobe.
Blushed, By Teagan Jacobs
Blushed by Teagan Jacobs is a women’s fashion label designed and made in Perth. Each piece is distinctly playful and feminine, thoughtfully designed with artists and daydreamers in mind. The ready-to-wear collections are made for easy wearing, and perfect for adding a bit of whimsy to your look.
Lo-Fi The Label
Located on the outskirts of Perth city, Lo-Fi the Label operates from two retail stores, positioned directly across the road from each other; one selling street and the other skate wear. Lo-Fi draws inspiration from fringe cultures and pop culture references, as a nod to the lifestyle and community associated with each style.
Kirrikin creates luxury fashion and accessories, featuring the works of contemporary Indigenous artists. Each design explores the identity of Aboriginal people, traditions, and their land; the essence of which is captured in their unique designs. The brand is also a registered social enterprise and ensures a percentage of each purchase is returned to the featured artist involved in the design process.
Boutique lifestyle and fitness brand JPorter creates designs for both the gym and the street, for men and women. They refer to their customers as a Wolfpack and provide some of the best customer service going around. Their range is made from bright, bold luxury fabrics, and each collection comes with a unique message along the lines of following your dreams and striving for a better life.
Including ready-to-wear, special occasion and bridal wear, Jonté was launched in 2012 after showcasing at Perth Fashion Week. The designs are feminine, yet eclectic, and made to stand the test of time using quality fabrics, hand beading and lace detailing. Head designer Jonté Pike wants her wearers to feel confident, sexy and elegant, and it’s not hard to feel that way with one of her stunning designs in your wardrobe.
Launched in 2016 by then 22-year-old Jess Williamson, Ete Swimwear has gone on to quickly become one of Australia’s most coveted swimwear brands. Drawing inspiration from her love of the beach and relaxed WA lifestyle, the label heroes luxurious designs hand painted with watercolour prints created by a local artist that are exclusive to the brand.
