Sure we're into spring now . . . and you're probably thinking about amping up your exercise regime and making an effort to cut back on your winter indulgences, all in the lead up to losing your layers as the temperature continues to climb. But before you do that, best to go out in a glorious, calorie-laden food fest, and say goodbye to the indulgent winter eater in style.
Forget Paleo, gluten free, and vegetarian—here are some spots to go in Brisbane when a diet-friendly meal is just not on the cards.
Holy dooley, do they cater for big appetites at The German Club. The entire menu promises irresponsible (but delicious) calorie choices, but the pork knuckle takes the cake . . . fancy a slow roasted pork hock with crispy crackling, served with fried potatoes, sauerkraut, and smoked beer gravy? Yes, please. The German is also a haven for schnitzel fiends.
Wow. From start to finish Smokehouse will leave you with the desire to undo your top button, or loosen the belt. Fried chicken wings? Onion rings? They're just the starters. Go all out at main time and order the 'Big Rib Combo', then hit a home run with a banana cream pie.
You'd expect a brewery to come up trumps here, and believe us they do . . . take your pick from kilogram servings of buffalo wings, three-cheese jaffles, and pork-belly sliders, to name but a few. Best accompanied with a side serving of Panko-crumbed onion rings.
Admittedly they have some lighter options on the menu, but confit duck nachos warrant a mention, and a round of applause.
Gwyneth Paltrow style baja fish taco these ain't. They're massive and feature alongside some other nutritional knockouts. How about a Mexican hot dog? It's a hot dog you see, and then it's rolled in a floury tortilla and fried. Chimichangas make the list too (aka a deep fried burrito), and the chilli fries come with lashings of chilli con carne and cheese.
