Chinese New Year is the most wonderful time of the year—think lanterns, dumplings, dragons, and hot pots. If you’re yet to experience the festivities, first of all: where have you been?! Secondly, don’t worry, we’ve found the perfect place to celebrate.
An Asian Night Market will be popping up from 10 and 11 February in the laneway behind Town Square, Garden City.
The Festival of Lanterns—that’s a traditional celebration that marks the end of the Chinese New Year, if you’re playing along at home—will kick things off and will see pop-up vendors, as well as pretty hard to ignore deals in the precinct. If Asian street food is your thing, you’re probably going to want to add this one to your diary.
What’s on the menu? We thought you’d never ask. Make sure you’ve got enough room to chow down on pork buns, bun thit (rice vermicelli salad), special rice noodles, a BBQ mix wrap, and more from 8 Street. If you’re feeling more like chicken karaage curry rice, takoyaki (that's fried octopus), seared salmon and avocado then Motto Motto has you covered. Keep an eye out for discounts across the entire town square precinct too, because there is going to be so much deliciousness on offer to celebrate the New Year. Get your stretchy pants out, people.
If you've never gotten on board with Chinese New Year celebrations, this is the perfect pool to dip your toe in. Oh and red clothing is said to ward off mythical monsters, so don your best red threads!
Chinese New Year, we love you.
