The venues in Brisbane's underground dining scene (and we mean actually under the ground) can probably be listed on one hand.
You can't deny the uber-cool, air-of-secrecy of below ground dining so it's no surprise we became obsessed with planning clandestine rendezvous when we heard our fave' yum cha and Asian haunt, Francie Mays, has a basement dining area!
Housed in the home of former Fortitude Valley grunge-haunt Alibi Room, Francie Mays is at pretty much polar opposite ends of the spectrum to the previous occupant in all areas.
Now sitting proudly on the corner of Brunswick and Annie Streets is a veritable feast of Oriental-inspired delights, particularly South East Asian cuisine styles, plus some amazing boutique beers, wines and very cool cocktails to whet your whistle.
Head chef Mr Robert, who was trained in the kitchens of Singapore, has created a distinctly authentic menu featuring some seriously delicious morsels.
We got very excited when we saw the likes of Szechuan chilli and honey spiced popcorn prawn, Grant's signature sticky pork ribs, and Francie's very own special nasi goreng — but we could keep going all day, really!
Covering everything from starters to share plates and large plates, plus some amazing looking desserts, this Brisbane underground dining spot is perfect for large groups, or more intimate dining (remember the clandestine rendezvous from earlier?). [Ed. Tip: Don't forget to check out their bar menu either!]
Francie Mays is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus they have a Friday lunch delivery service (hello desk-dumplings!), yum cha Tuesdays (super popular) and a Paddleboard Thursday to keep you occupied throughout the week.
Check out their Facebook page for more promo details and get down to The Valley to hang with Francie May, Brisbane's coolest underground dining space!
