The latest innovation in market shopping is poised to land on King Street this October, and it might just ruin me for other markets. It goes by the name Mercado; and it’s a goddamn revelation in retail and dining, let me tell ya. Now, there is little I love more than a luxury food precinct except maybe finding out my dress has pockets, so this news tickles me to my marrow.
Pledging to be open from dawn to dusk, Mercado will offer seafood, meats, cheeses, breads, pastries, chocolate, fresh fruit and veg, and all the pantry pleasure you could feasibly want. The whole idea is to create the ultimate destination in food shopping, injecting some much-missed flair and excitement into the weekly shop. Akin to Italian food destination Eataly in the US and Japan, and the famous food halls of Harrods and Selfridges in London, UK, Mercado will be your one-stop food trend shop.
You can get your first taste of the Mercado marketplace when it opens in mid-October. Look out for a stylish pavilion on Bowen Hills’ King Street and the horde of hungry shoppers.
