When we heard that Brisbane was getting a place dedicated solely to frites (that’s posh chips between me and you) and burgers it would not be an exaggeration to say that we lost our shit. They’re only our two favourite things, for Pete’s sake.
The aptly named and freshly opened Fritzenberger calls Petrie Terrace home and fills the space once occupied by Casablanca (RIP). Their menu focuses on one of life’s greatest pairings; chips and burgers—so you know they’re going to do a damn good burger.
We visited on a Friday lunch and the place was seriously pumping. With an indoor-meets-outdoor set up it was so nice to sit in the sun, without battling the wind at an outdoor table #FirstWorldProbs. Good thinking, Fritzenberger. With a hefty selection of house-brewed beers served up in adorable pint glasses with moustaches on them (an unmissable Instagram opportunity, really) you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to beers. Our pick is the sparkling ale, FYI. They also have some old faves on deck, too.
We opted for the Twistie salted fries because, honestly, how could we not. As a lifelong lover of Twisties, these fries were potentially one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Seriously. Cheese, bacon, chips, and Twistie salt—what more could you ask for? We also ordered plain chips too for ‘research’, and topped them with the selection of salts they have on hand: parmesan, rosemary, truffle, chicken, they’ve got everything you need to pimp your chips. They just get us. They really do.
The burger selection is concise and delicious, just the way we like. We went straight for the cheeseburger, and it’s safe to say it did not disappoint. It’s the classic done just right—grass-fed beef, house-made organic ketchup, house-made pickles, and aged cheddar. We’ll say it: it was one of the best cheese burgers we’ve ever had. Nicely done, Fritzenberger!
The verdict? This place is epic and the perfect spot for Friday burgers and beers in the sun. Or anytime, because there is 100% not a time limit on burgers and beers. Eat that shit 24/7.
