Ever since we've heard there was going to be a festival made entirely out of shipping containers popping up in Portside we've been eagerly awaiting the weekend of the 2nd of November, and what do you know, it's finally arrived!
Running for three mad weekends, from the 2nd to the 17th of November, Containerval promises an eclectic line up of pop-up retailers, food stalls, live music, movies, fashion, dance, and other cool artsy stuff you are definitely going to want to check out.
This relaxed festival is BYO chair, picnic blanket, or cushion, which you can pull up to watch some live entertainment. Occupying the spot next to the Portside Park, on Macarthur Avenue in Hamilton's Portside wharf area, there's free parking on site. Bonus.
Containerval has partnered up with Brisbane International Film Festival for an open-air cinema for 3 nights of the festival, on the 14th, 15th and 16th of November. Chill out on the astro turf and indulge in some treats (there's gourmet food, coffee, and wine available). On the line up are Spike Island, The Spectacular Now, Miniscule: Valley of The Lost Ants (a good choice for the smaller folk).
We're excited to check out My Kitchen Rules' Jake and Ella's container, Chitty Bahn Bahn, which will be serving up Vietnamese street food, international beat boxer, Tom Thum performing, and Urban List fave DJ Sampology.
The Eat Street Markets are another new initiative to spring up in this former industrial area. Launching on the 8th of November, this NIGHT market (sorry for emphasis, but we thinks that's pretty cool), will be operating every Friday and Saturday from 4pm to 10pm. Shipping containers will be decked out as mini-restaurants, bars, galleries, and market stalls, with the event set to mimic the bustle, aromas and colours of a South East Asian night market.
