Keeping up with the best events, new openings, pop ups, and good things to eat in Brisbane is no mean feat (and we would know!). To make your life that little bit easier, and because we love a good list, we’ve teamed up with Peroni to bring you What’s Trending: A one-stop guide to everything worth checking out in your city this month, so you won’t miss a thing.

Ahh, l’amour; is there a better feeling? This February in Brisbane we’re celebrating everything that makes us feel the big warm and fuzzies for this glorious town. No, we’re not just talking about places to stuff our faces or our favourite bar (though they certainly get a mention), heck no, this month is all about culture—and we’re loving it!

This month, Brisbane is jam-packed with things to do; from rock royalty gigs to all of the musicals treading the boards, here’s what’s trending in Brisbane this February.

#1. Ladies In Black

Possibly the best Australian musical since Pricilla: Queen of The Desert, Ladies In Black is a fabulous tale set in the department stores of 1950’s Sydney. A mix of jazz, rock n’ roll, blues and pop music, this blockbuster show is the winner of the Helpmann award, so you know it’s bringing the goods.

#2. Laneway Italian Eats

Italian food tastes better when eaten in secret laneways, with a frosty Peroni in hand. Sorry, but it’s science—you can’t argue with science. Coppa Spuntino delivers on the secret front, that’s for sure. But they also dish up authentic, delicious, and plentiful cheese plates and salumi. Spuntino does mean small plates (made for sharing) after all.

#3. Queensland Orchestra—Year Of The Rooster

Happy Chinese New Year, folks, and welcome the year of the rooster. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, the Queensland Orchestra are putting on their annual South Bank event, seamlessly combining traditional Chinese music and famous western tunes for a beautiful evening along the riverside.

#4. Bruce Springsteen

Put on your blue suede shoes and board the er, train, because ‘the boss’ himself is on his way down under! Die-hard fans of Bruce Springsteen and anyone that missed his sell out tour in 2014, this is for you; join Bruce and The E Street Band for a night of total bangers, and pure iconic Americana—Springsteen style.

#5. A Table To End Hunger Charity Night!

Love is in the air this February, but gee wizz, is it hard to find a free table a some of Brisbane best spots. This Valentines Day, spread the love a little further and get bidding on a spot at your favourite Brissie restaurant all for a good cause! With all proceeds of the charity auction going to The Hunger Project, bid on tables at Otto, Gerard’s Bistro, LongTime and a whole lot more! Charitable at its most fancy.

#6. Technicolour Chinese New Year Night Market

Brisbane’s Technicolour Chinese New Year Night Market is a sight to behold; a vision of red and gold, hot-foot it to Newmarket for a night of vibrant and traditional Chinese dragon dances, live cooking shows, market stalls, and a bucket load of delicious food to ring in the final night of ‘Spring Festival’. Who ever said New Year’s was boring?

#7. The Australian Ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty

Its world premiere season sold out across the country, and now Brisbane gets first dibs for its 2017 run. One of the most beautiful stories ever told—NOT the Brother’s Grimm version, to clarify—watch The Australian Ballet bring life to The Sleeping Beauty, an iconic classic. From the stunning costumes, to the downright jaw-dropping talent on stage, this is a visual feast for ballet lovers young and young at heart.

#8. American Idiot | The Musical

The award-winning musical (two Tony awards plus a Grammy, no biggie), American Idiot makes its Australian Premiere right here in Brisbane! Jammed with classic Green Day tunes, and based on the stories of three childhood friends looking for meaning a post-911 world, this is big, bold, powerful stuff and a true headliner for the arts in Brisbane in 2017!

#9. 90’s Tour!

Release your inner 90’s self; iconic 90’s pop bands Bewicthed, S Club 7, East 17 and Atomic Kitten are touring Australia! Brining all of their chart-topping, endlessly catchy bangers to Brisbane this February, re-ignite your teenage crushes and helping you break out your finest 90’s dance moves. Don’t take life so seriously, this is the time to let your lair down and let it all go!

#10. Seinfeld Trivia Night

This is not your average trivia night fodder, friends, this is the trivia night to end all trivia nights honouring the greatest TV sitcom ever made. Seinfeld fans, you know what to do! Fave Brisbane bar, Brightside is known for a decent turn out for their themed trivia events, so gather your knowledgeable friends, create a team of fine minds and register now.
