what's trending in Brisbane November

Keeping up with the best events, new openings, pop ups, and good things to eat in Brisbane is no mean feat (and we would know!). To make your life that little bit easier, and because we love a good list, we’ve teamed up with Peroni to bring you What’s Trending: A one-stop guide to everything worth checking out in your city this month, so you won’t miss a thing.

Brisbane; it’s officially the city that never sleeps! This November is gearing up to be eventful to say the very least, with more new openings, curtain raises and new food trends than you can possibly fit into 30 days... But we know you're going to give it a go!

Here's what's trending in Brisbane this November. Give it all you've got!

#1. Brisbane’s Newest Dive Bar, Tomcat Opens

Another gem to add to Brisbane’s burgeoning bar scene, Tomcat is the brainchild of award-winning owners of The Manhattan Line and Forth Wall. Blink-and-you’ll-miss-it, Tomcat’s entrance is a discreet doorway on Wickham St, disguising Brisbane’s newest dive bar-come-late night revelry maker. With cocktails on tap, great local brews, house made pizza to order and trip-hop jams ‘til real late, odds are that this will become your home from home.

#2. Etsy Made Local Markets

Everyone's favourite digital market place is coming to life for one day only, showcasing some of the best artisan wares across Australia. Given that the 'silly season' is all but upon us, check out Etsy Made Local Markets on November 19th for some top notch gifts for the rellies, but if we're really being honest, we'll be keeping our eyes out for gifts for ourselves!

#3. British Asia Pacific Film Festival 2016

If there’s one thing we love to do in Brisbane, it’s catching a great flick at the movies. With more than 80 films being showcased at this year's highly anticipated British Asia Pacific Film Festival—from Russia to NZ, Japan to Turkey—this will be the ultimate event for any cinephile. Miss it and miss out!

#4. Vintage Gaming And Late Night Beers!

Love an old-fashion pinball fight? Then get prep your opposable thumbs; Brisbane’s first vintage pinball and arcade game bar, Netherworld, is set to open! Inspired by classic vintage gaming bars in NYC, Netherworld will house some 70+ mint arcade games for your gaming pleasure. Combining everyones favourite pastime—eating and drinking—with more fun than you can handle, this is one bar set to cause a stir on the Brisbane bar scene.

#5. Matilda The Musical Opens!

The infamous stage show, Matilda is FINALLY coming to Brisbane! Not to be outdone by our southern sisters, Brisbane’s QPAC will also host Roald Dahl’s iconic masterpiece. Multiple award-winning performances (and directed by our very own Tim Minchin, no biggie) Matilda will warm your soul. The perfect night old for (big) kids!

#6. Wonderland 2016 At Brisbane Powerhouse

The calendar event of the year, Brisbane Powerhouse’s Wonderland is a theatre buff’s wet dream. Presenting 31 shows, in 14 days, this is the equivalent of Netflix binge-watching, only way better! From circus to comedy, musical to magic and burlesque, each show is unique and totally brilliant.

#7. Gourmet Cheese Toasties

Not much on this earth is better than cheese. Except melted cheese. Between two golden slices of crusty bread. In your mouth. In an ode to the immeasurably delicious food snack that is the  cheese toastie, Brisbane is getting its first gourmet cheese toastie café! Hooray! Welcome Melt Brothers, you have answered our prayers (read: carby cheesey fantasies).

#8. Mango Season Has Landed!

With a warmth in the air and Melbourne Cup over for another year, it can only mean one thing; Christmas is on its way and mango season has arrived! Now, we’re all adults here, and while we don’t suggest you stop what you’re doing right now and race down to your nearest fruit market to pick up a tray… Wait, no. Do this immediately—summer is here, folks!

#9. High Tea Is The New Lunch

If you’ve never had a long lunch or candlelit dinner on the veranda at award-winning, hatted restaurant The Balfour Kitchen, you can’t call yourself a true Brisbanite. If you somehow needed more persuasion to check out this stunning local, then team at Balfour have designed a very modern high tea—no stuffy finger sandwiches here. Go on, treat yourself!

#10. Baseball Season In Full Swing

We're off the cricket this year, instead upping the ante by getting behind Brisbane's official baseball team, the Brisbane Bandits! After a mega sugccessful season last year, Brissy's fallen under the spell of America's ultimate pastime. First home game of the season kicks off this weekend, with the Bandits taking on Canberra. Hey batter batter!
