If you’ve been wondering what’s going on at The Old Swan Brewery site for a while now, you’ll be pleased to hear about Cooee, the brand new restaurant opening today, Friday 6 November.
The Old Swan Brewery site was picked up by Andrew Forrest’s private company, Tattarang in 2019 and we’ve been waiting patiently to find out their plans for the space. While most of the plans are still top secret, we’re pretty excited by what we’ve heard about Cooee so far.
Sitting in the iconic location on the banks of the Swan River beneath Mount Eliza in Kings Park, the 125-person restaurant is led by Michelin-star chef Alan Wise who has come direct to us in Perth from Brisbane’s Beaux Rumble. Before that he was slaying the food and drink scene in New York at restaurants such as Rouge Tomate, Picholine, Juni and Public and he also worked at the Michelin-starred Chapter One in Dublin, so we have no doubt the food is going to be nothing short of spectacular.
The menu is heavy on the seafood with some vegetarian and vegan dishes that will blow you away. Think Albany rock oysters, Leeuwin Coast Akoya, kingfish sashimi, Fremantle octopus and mushroom tartare to start you off, with more filling dishes like rose mallee wagyu scotch fillet, ranking cod and flank steak.
Cooee will be open all day long so you can also stop by for a coffee in the morning to go with the waffles, yuzu curd, Chantilly and smashed meringue, or perhaps you'd prefer to keep things savoury with their corn and zucchini fritters with avocado, lime, chipotle bearnaise and coriander.
Whether you stop by for breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks, you won't regret it once you're looking out over the Swan River and feeling all sorts of tranquil.
