Possibly a hangover from our caveman days, there is something about gnawing at slow cooked, tender meat on the bone that lights a fire within. Watching bone after bone pile up in front of you, with sticky sauce smeared on your face and a full belly. It doesn’t get more satisfying than chowing down on ribs…sorry vegos (perhaps this article will be more up your alley).
Thankfully for you Perthites, our fare city serves up some of the tastiest, tender ribs we have ever had the pleasure of nibbling (along with some glorious sides). Here’s where to find the best ribs in Perth.
Old Faithful Bar & BBQ
Old Faithful Bar & BBQ have their rib recipe down pat. After soaking the meat in a brine solution for almost 12 hours, the meats are rubbed with tasty seasonings and slow cooked using their hot smoking method with beech, hickory and coal for up to 26 hours. Served up with sliced bread, shaved onion and Old Faithful’s home made sauces, the pig ribs are equally as good on their own as they are with a side of coleslaw and cornbread. If you’re still hungry you can order an extra “snack” of fried lamb ribs with chimichurri!
Apple Daily Bar & Eating House
The guys at Apple Daily sure do know how to wow us, and their teriyaki beef short ribs with shimeji mushrooms and white miso will do just that. If you're just after a snack, the Korean fried chicken ribs will knock your socks off.
You can’t get more American (in Perth that is) than the smoked ribbie platter at The Merrywell. With smoked mini ribs, bacon potato salad and plenty of BBQ sauce, pair it with the mac and cheese bites for the ultimate hangover cure!
Ribs & Burgers
Ribs & Burgers in the Perth CBD have got all of the ribs and they’re all cooked for eight hours in some of the tastiest secret sauces. Served on a bed of chips (drooool) the beef ribs are as epic as they are tender. There’s no other way but to eat these bad boys with your hands and then proceed to mop up all that caramelised goodness with some chippies. These guys even do bonesless ribs, just in case you're the kind of person who wants to keep your hands clean.
The Old Brewery
For some of the best ribs in Perth accompanied by some of the best views in Perth head to The Old Brewery. Their BBQ pork ribs are the bomb, but it's the BBQ lamb ribs that will really get your mouth watering. With a schezuan, cumin and cola glaze, these are a delight for the taste buds! If you're feeling hungry, get the Kilkoy steak with BBQ pork ribs, becasue there is no such things as too much meat here.
Another place to catch some epic views while chowing down on ribs is BWG Steakhouse in Applecross. Owned by the same guys as The Old Brewery, the menu is almost identical so there's no need for the Freo locals to travel too far for good ribs!
Miss Kitty’s Saloon
We love us some smokey meats, especially the smokey BBQ pork ribs with plum sauce from Miss Kitty’s Saloon in Inglewood. If they don't tickle your fancy, how about the hot chilli pork ribs or the honey, soy and ginger pork ribs?
How do 12-hour slow-cooked BBQ ribs sound? AMAZING is how that sounds and that’s what you’ll get at Brooklyn Lounge in Claremont! Grab some parmesan and truffle oil loaded fries and you have yourself one square (and delicious) meal.
Famous for their love of chilli, Long Chim's lamb ribs will spice up your night! With chilli, cumin and a good dash of coconut cream to cool things down a bit, these are so tender you'll be flagging down your waiter to ask for a second serving before you even finish the first.
