Things that are worth committing to: budgeting, boxing classes and a boyfriend who picks you up from work when you’ve had a long day.

Things that are better mixed up: dinner menus in a city saturated with eating options.

It’s nice to know that nel. restaurant agrees with this new Sydney restaurant showcasing their innovative approach to eating through a monthly changing seasonal degustation menu.

Heading up the kitchen is chef Nelly Robinson. And while the other Nellys you may know have found fame through urban anthems about flashy sports cars, this one is celebrated for his contemporary interpretations of modern Australian meals. Nel (he doesn’t mind if we call him that) was inspired by past-experiences working with Michelin-starred Northcote Manor chef Nigel Howarth.

You’ll have 28-31 days depending on the month (obviously) to sample the changing degustation menu. You can expect an array of dishes at this new Sydney restaurant, think venison carpaccio with a chocolate dust and pickled enoki mushrooms, slow-cooked and water bathed Tasmanian lobster with paprika and garlic butter, charred sweet corn and fresh mango and blowtorched peach with elderflower sorbet and a buttermilk mousse grace the menu. Make the most of it, because the menu is modified every month depending on the availability of ingredients. Oh, and the menu is also made to be matched with 10 varieties of wine – two per dish (OMG) which gives diners the ability to enjoy different tastes.

If you thought the concept of “innovative yet accessible’ cuisine was an oxymoron, think again – Nelly has an uncanny ability to create dishes that are both inventive and unpretentious, which is a combination we love.

nel. restaurant may be situated in an underground bunker-style room in Sydney’s CBD but the décor is through the roof… The modern venue with leather booths, exposed brickwork and sleek copper facades also ¬features an open kitchen and makes for a sophisticated space where every seat is the best one in the house! So, make a reservation at this new Sydney restaurant to see what the nel we’re talking about.
