Our new found love of all-in mesmerising immersive theatre has just hit new heights.
The idea, borrowed and blown out from epic productions like NYC's Sleep No More, basically removes the stage and asks that you, the audience, actually take part in the action and experience the theatre unfolding around you—even with you.
Following on from this year's immersive theatre pop-ups, A Midnight Visit and The Lock In, we are in for a real treat when the legends at Underground Cinema recreate the world of one of the most iconic movies of the 80s (the 20th century, even). That's right, in March next year for three nights only you’ll be able to dance your way down to the Kellerman’s Mountain Resort and relive the sweet summer of ’63 in all of its glory with a fully-fledged immersive theatre version of Dirty Dancing.
Featuring about 50 dancers and actors, expect to enter a real-life recreation of the Kellerman's resort where you can partake in actual dance lessons, sip cocktails, take part in a talent show, enjoy some real New York-style food at the Kellerman's diner and—to top it all off, enjoy an outdoor screening of the cult classic under the stars.
Looking the part is encouraged so dust off those dancing shoes. And being 1963 and all, you'll need to really take a leap back in time and leave your phone at the door too.
Better start practicing those Swayze lifts. Pre-sale starts next Thursday 15 November. Head here for tickets.
