TUL: Known to many as the 'Queen of Frocks', your label is a favourite on race day. What are the key trends in womenswear this Spring Racing season?
Leona Edmiston: Colour blocking is very strong, mixed florals, strong graphics and of course black and white. Pink is the highlight colour for the season.
TUL: What makes for the perfect trackside outfit?
Leona: Something stylish and chic for the day, but with that touch that sets it apart from the rest—whether it's a fabulous hat or an amazing dress
TUL: And can you tell us your race-day essentials?
Leona: Sunblock, phone for finding friends at the track and in the tents, and of course shoes that have been worn in.
TUL: Attending Melbourne Cup each year, have you observed a standout sartorial moment?
Leona: Two standouts—one was very simple and one was very extravagant. A beautiful blonde in a Collette Dinnigan black sheath with a simple cloche hat who won Fashions On The Field that day, and the other was Tara Moss in a white J'Aton corset dress— outstandingly striking!
TUL: What's your highlight of the day when attending Melbourne Cup?
Leona: Definitely the running of the race, the atmosphere is electric, the noise of the crowd is incredible—everyone in Australia is shouting and cheering for their horse!
TUL: What antics have shocked you trackside?
Leona: None, after a day of champagne nothing shocks you!
TUL: How do you pick your winners on race day?
Leona: I always ask those in the know—Bernie Brooks the CEO of Myer loves his racing and gives the best tips.
