Once considered a side of town deprived of winning cafes, the southside has really started really showing those northsiders what they’re made of by serving up some of the best breakfasts in Brisbane.

Whether it’s a smug post-workout feast or a sorry post-party fry up that you’re looking for, we’ve found some stellar options that makes booking breakfast on the southside a complete no-brainer.

South Brisbane

I don’t know about you, but I actually feel a weight off the old shoulders when I know a café serves actual organic and ethically grown food. Which is why Merriweather in South Brisbane is always a go-to when we’re talking great food. Their breakfasts are always a winner in the taste and health stakes, with the smoked fish kedgeree with crispy shallots and the pork belly hash with kimchi very high on the best breakfasts list.

Local Salisbury cafe Hedge is one of Brisbane’s best kept secrets. Housed in a super cute workers cottage, all your avo on toast and eggs and bacon needs are taken care of. If you’re in the mood for a sweet breakfast, the ricotta pancakes with blueberries is divine.

Davies Bakery

Davies Bakery has been rocking Tarragindi’s world since 1985 and that’s because it serves one of the freshest and quickest breakfasts in town. The bacon deluxe on Turkish is an absolute Sunday morning right of passage, but don’t forget their cinnamon doughnuts and damn fine coffee.

Same Same But Different

New kid on the Brisbane cafe scene, Same Same But Different is the place to stop by if you're after something, well, different for breakfast—did you expect anything less from the guys behind beloved Brisbane cafe, Bare Bones Society? Serving up delicacies like chilie con carne brekky bowls, house made honey puffs (seriously!), plus a sweets cabinet jammed full of goodies like their insanely good strawberry-chocolate eclairs and red skin flavoured macarons. These guys need to be on your to-do list. Stat!

Todd & Pup

Moorooka’s Todd & Pup is a pretty solid option if your weekend café visit isn’t complete without your darling pooch. Thankfully they love pups here and, in turn, we love their excellent breakfast options. The breakfast ramen was an absolutely genius menu item, but they’ve also got you covered for avo on toast and all the styles of eggs.

Day Made Supreme

Gabba newbie Day Made Supreme really know their coffee, so if you’re one of those people with really “specific” coffee preferences, this is the morning stop for you. The beautifully expansive and light filled café has heaps of different spaces to chill out over a long breakfast and enough baked goods to keep you going all morning.

Cake & Bake

West End

Cake & Bake in West End offers one of the best under the radar breakfast options in town. Best known for its epic cakes, let me assure there is also plenty to make your morning meal special. Look out for the still warm quiche Lorraine, served with chutney, and the feather light danishes topped with seasonal fruit. Delish.

Jam Pantry

The best thing about Jam Pantry in Greenslopes is that their all day breakfasts are seasonal, which means you can come here time and time again and never get bored. What is a constant is the use of delicious homemade condiments – like papaya and lime jam and banana relish – which make everything from traditional bacon and eggs, and fluffy omelettes seem exotic.
