things to do in brisbane

In Australia, we may not be walking in a winter wonderland, or be able to hear the sleigh bells ringing. Jack Frost and Frosty the Snowman aren’t making an appearance any time soon, and hot cocoa is the last thing we want to drink. But just because the Christmas carols don’t exactly align with Christmas in the Southern Hemisphere doesn’t mean we don’t know how to do Christmas well. We’ve put together a list of 9 things to do to keep busy this Christmas week, with everything from carolling, markets and non-stop shopping.

Tuesday 22nd December

Southbank Christmas Markets

Our favourite Southbank markets are being tinsel-ified and Christmas carolled. Along the cobbled streets of Stanley Plaza, twinkling decorative lights and the pine fragrance of Christmas trees will make the perfect backdrop for the Christmas-themed markets, whose stalls are also gaily adorned in their best yuletide decorations. Stick around for the fireworks at 8:15pm!

When: 11th-23rd December
Where: Stanley Plaza, Southbank

Wednesday 23rd December

South Bank Christmas Cinema Series

Watching Christmas classics like The Muppet Christmas Carol, Dr Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Home Alone is so much more fun with a festive crowd. Enter the South Bank Christmas Cinema Series where you can get comfortable on a beach towel on the sand at South Bank’s Streets Beach and watch the movies on the big screen.

Featuring North Pole projections on the campus walls, reindeer installations, an abundance of Mistletoe and, of course, Santa will be making an appearance!
