The Sunshine Coast’s Favourite Poke Bar Just Opened In Brisbane

By James Shackell - 06 Jun 2019

If you’re worried about putting on some winter hibernation weight (guilty as charged), this might help.

The Sunshine Coast’s cult poke bar, Raw + Rice, is opening its first Brisbane store tomorrow (Friday 7 June). It was just announced on the Facebook page. The address is all we know so far: no big surprise, it's in the Valley.

If you haven’t tried these guys before, trust us—this is rather a big deal. Raw + Rice have kind of exploded over the last couple of years, opening three stores along the Sunny Coast. Ben Glass and James Brust are the brains behind the operation, and they’ve turned poke bowls into a very sexy art form.

Expect a minimal, Scandi-style fit-out (the boys love a bit of brushed concrete), and the best fresh seafood bowl going around.

We don’t know yet if the Brisbane menu will differ from the Sunny Coast. The existing options are pretty succinct, but there should be everything you need for a healthy winter. Even the non-fish lovers are covered. There’s the option to choose your poke bowl based on a main filling—super fresh salmon, tuna, swordfish, soy tofu or poached chicken—or you can Build Your Own from the base up (think: brown rice, sushi rice, quinoa or mixed greens). Just add ingredients from mini categories like The Protein, The Freshness, The Sauce and finally The Crunch.

You can get a feel for their aesthetic on the Raw + Rice Instagram page.

If you were quietly planning four straight months of soup and spag bol, it might be time to re-think your plans. See you down there for Open Day.
