If there’s one hotel that blew up our Instagram feed in 2019, it was The Calile Hotel on Brisbane’s swanky James Street. From The Calile’s achingly cool design to so-hip-it-hurts restaurant, Hellenika, it was truly a match made in staycation heaven.
Sister restaurant to Gold Coast institution Hellenika in Nobby Beach, this jaw-dropping eatery turned heads instantly, with foodies creating waitlists on weekends and influencers falling over each other to be snapped sipping cocktails beside that pool. Being awarded the best restaurant in Queensland within months of opening may have ruffled some industry feathers, but the truth is, the Hellenika brand, service and exceptional food standard has been in development for almost a decade.
That’s why this news is exciting, like seriously exciting. Simon Glofits and his right-hand man, superstar chef Kelvin Andrews, together with business partner Theo Kampolis, have just announced they’re opening yet another restaurant in The Calile Hotel. Yes, just let that sink in for a moment.
SK Steak & Oyster will be a traditional grill restaurant specialising in perfectly-cooked steak (think: top quality aged Stockyard Beef black angus and Japanese wagyu), grilled fish, fresh seafood like prawn cocktails and oysters, and generally all of Simon’s favourite things (ours, too). Smooth, attentive service will be paramount, along with a broad wine and champagne list, and hint of a dedicated live oyster and scallop-shucking station. Design-wise, we can’t wait to see what they dream up next.
There’s no denying these guys have set the bar ridiculously high for themselves, and our expectations along with it. But we have faith this powerhouse team, and that Insta-famous hotel, will again produce the hottest seat in town when SK Steak & Oyster opens this summer.
We’ll be back in November with a tasty look inside. Until then, give them a follow over at their new Instagram account for teasers.
