We Try New Farmer’s Kitchen at Watt | The Verdict

Spring has finally sprung which means it’s time to pull out the singlets, bask in the sun and most importantly, start planning Sunday sessions.

Perfect timing then that THE Sunday sesh institution, Watt at New Farm, has just reopened with a schmick new makeover after a winter hibernation slash renovation.

The riverside icon under The Powerhouse has been remade with floor to ceiling glass windows, a whole new outdoor seating area and a pimpin’ retractable roof to take alfresco riverside drinking to the next level. But the most exciting news in my book is that there’s also been a brand spanking new restaurant, New Farmer’s Kitchen, added to the mix.

The name New Farmer’s Kitchen—a nod to the New Farm location—also hints at the strong focus on produce that is on offer, with the menu divided according to provenance: be it from the sea, the farm or the garden.

Over a sophisticated Friday lunch with the girls we covered off on all areas; the Cone Bay barramundi, beef cheek papardelle and roasted beetroot salad with witlof and pecans were all hits. (The cheeky bottle of rose went down a treat, too.)

What we sadly didn’t explore was the New Farmer’s Kitchen’s sweet treats.  I’m looking for an excuse to visit again to test out the lemon zest doughnuts or bread and butter pudding with crème fraiche ice cream. Or both?

Despite the facelift, I’m glad one thing hasn’t changed. It’s still the top-notch place in our glorious city for stellar people watching opportunities: cute dogs, cute athletes and the main attraction, the sparkling Brisbane river.

Now, go forth and enjoy good time-lovers of Brisbane!
