If you're a northsider from way back, you're probabaly already familiar with the booming breakfast scene in Kedron, the perfect espresso pumping out of Dandelion and Driftwood, and the deep fried joys of Chicken Magic. But finding a great restaurant on the northside for dinner can be not so easy. We've scoured the northern 'burbs and come up with our favourite Brisbane restaurants northside of the river.
Hosokawa Japanese Restaurant
Brisbane's most avid Japanese fans are already onto the goodness that is Hosokawa on Racecourse Road. The vibe in this northside restaurant is relaxed, but the food is straight down the line honest and authentic. Open or dinner Tuesday to Saturday, there's limited seating so book ahead.
This French Bistro in Wooloowin is completely authentic, BYO, and — no surprise — a family favourite. Cosy and intimate, with a lush rhubarb coloured interior, Rhubarb Rhubarb is perfect for winter night dining, when their twice-cooked blue cheese soufflé or duck l'orange would go down a treat. A northside Brisbane restaurant must-try!

Baguette Bistrot & Bar
Quite the northside icon, Baguette is both a great option for dinner, with consistently high quality service and some of the best French fare you'll find on the northside, or a perfectly situated bar to grab a few (they're just opposite the racecourse on Racecourse Road). Their menu has all your Francophile favourites: triple fromage soufflé, bouillabaisse, escargots, and foie gras with homemade brioche. Baguette is open Monday to Saturday for dinner.
Beloved by Wilston locals, Citron is an Asian–fusion favourite that delivers every time. The food at this northside restaurant is top notch, and the atmosphere is relaxed, just how we like it.
Sister location to Sono's digs in the CBD, the portside location is perfectly situated for northsiders who'd rather not find a park in the city on a date night. Their six-course tasting menu is the ideal way to get to grips with the awesome menu (especially if you don't know where to start!). Available with perfectly matched wines, this menu features the likes of crab meat croquettes, prawn tempura, soft shell crab karaage, your choice of mains (all delish), and dessert. It's perfection of an evening.
For really, really good Italian on Brisbane's northside, you can't go past Viale Canova on Sandgate Road. (Well, technically you could go past it quite easily, it's a busy road and easy to miss, but you'd be making a big mistake). This northside Italian restaurant really works the white-linens, candlelight, and romantic music, making it an easy date night option. Plus, you can BYO wine. That's amore right there.
Mario at The Dining Room
Once you've tried Mario at The Dining Room, you'll be a fan for life. Housed in a quaint cottage in Hendra, this northside restaurant does old-school service, and a pappardelle duck that's impossible to beat (in the northern 'burbs, at least!). Mario's is open for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday.
Looking for a pre or post dinner drink on the northside? Ashgrove's Junk Bar is a tiki retreat, playing records and mixing cracking cocktails every Tuesday through Sunday. Best yet, Junk is always open late, and until midnight every Friday and Saturday.
