Ahhhh Renya Xydis, not only is she the creative director and owner of three of Sydney’s best hair salons, she also rocks crazy coloured hair like she was born with it and works with some of Australia’s best known faces including Nicole Trunfio, Cate Blanchett, Rebel Wilson, and Toni Collette.

Aside from making us desperately want pink/mint hair for ourselves, she’s also a source of endless inspiration for us (and not just in the hair department). Renya’s dedication to the industry, positive attitude, and ridiculous skills has us in complete awe (aaaand maybe feeling just a teeny bit jealous).

We caught up with Renya to find out how she manages to look so good, even when she’s on the go, which, if you follow her on Instagram, is like ALL THE TIME.

It’s a typical time-poor morning. What’s your beauty routine?

I don’t wear a lot of makeup during the day other than foundation, mascara and lipstick—Tom Ford lipsticks are my favourite, right down to the packaging! Even with my crazy schedule, applying lipstick takes no time at all and makes any outfit look complete.

When it comes to my hair, I usually run the Cloud Nine Waving Wand through it for an effortless wave—it’s really quick and easy to do and can take you from day to night! The waves should be loose and don’t have to be perfect. I always finish with SP LuxeOil to help tidy up any fly away hair.

If you’ve got an event on, what do you do to look a bit more special?

It’s always a treat for me when I actually get the chance to go into Valonz and have someone else do my hair!

It’s also really important to look after your skin and before any event I book in with Aesthetician & Dermal Therapist, Gabriella Menegon at Miss Frou Frou Beauty Parlour—she is my go-to for facials. An event is also a great excuse to buy a new outfit. I’m always on the look out for unique pieces, especially when I have an event coming up.

What beauty products can we always find in your handbag?

You’re obviously known for your skill with hair—what hair products do you personally use?

Have you had any hairstyles that you look back on and cringe?

I am pretty daring when it comes to my hair! Admittedly I was a little nervous when I first made the decision to go purple/pink and ended up dying it at least two to three times before I got the perfect pastel colour I was looking for.

What beauty/hair products do you splurge on?

I wouldn’t say there is one product in particular that I splurge on, however I love experimenting with new hair products, playing around with them and testing out new styling techniques. When it comes to beauty, I always travel with the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask. It keeps my skin hydrated during long international flights.

And skimp on?

My secret budget buy is my orange and jasmine essential oil blend that I make myself. The aroma is really soothing and creates a really beautiful, relaxing energy.

What’s your go-to lip colour?

Tom Ford Lipstick in Bruised Plum—This colour is so intense and chic, it gives me an instant lift and polished look event when my schedule has been crazy!

If you could only wear one nail polish colour for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Miss Frou Frou ‘Absolutely Black’ is my go-to colour! It is stays glossy and is a foolproof colour that can easily be matched with any item in my wardrobe.

Who has the best hair in the business?

Have to say a lot of my team do some great things with their hair—as hairdressers you’d be surprised at how little we do to our hair—it’s a time thing!
