Following the success of last year’s Dumpling Day, the BrisAsia Community are bringing it back this year with extra helpings of all the most popular attractions. Every single type of dumpling and dumpling-related product will be available for consumption, including arancini, and this year BrisAsia has moved the festivities to the spacious Welcome to Bowen Hills precinct, which is perfect for packing in as many stalls as possible.
There’ll also be workshops on the day teaching attendees how to make food to go. Starting with potstickers, the Saucy Wench will be making an appearance to teach us how to both craft the dumplings, and which sauces to pair them with. You’ll also get the chance to learn the secret of getting the soup inside the xiao long bao, and pick up some handy tricks for making kawaii bento lunch boxes.
But it’s not all just about the eating of the food, at the Dumpling Day punters will also get the opportunity to break up with plastic containers. There’ll be facilities on site for printing your own Japanese lunch bag (fukushiri) and learning the proper way to fold and tie it, as well as origami classes teaching you how to fold boxes and envelopes on the fly.
Entry is free, but you can register here and get your dumpling passport - the more places you get stamped, the better your chances of winning a $500 dumpling party.
