Better known as the home of Australia’s first and only vegan ramen, the Gold Coast’s I Like Ramen has been defying convention and straight-up changing the noodle game since coming onto the scene in 2017. A dish hallmarked by pork broth and a gooey egg throws down one heavy gauntlet for any plant-based alternatives, but I Like Ramen have shown no difficulty picking it up.
Their bone-free broths have attained cult-status as a holy trinity of deeply tasty alternatives. Choose from spicy kimchi, shiitake, or soy mushroom broth as the base for your bowl, then have your way with a choice of toppings including bok choy, fried tofu, or vegan chick’n. I Like Ramen will even let you deviate from soup into the realms of panko mushrooms and meat-free po’ boys if that’s your fancy.
Riding high on the monumental success of their recent Brisbane pop-up, I Like Ramen has decided to go all out and expand their vegan ramen operation to Brisbane permanently, taking over the kitchen in The Flying Cock on Brunswick Street and turning it into a hipster’s paradise.
This of course means we’ll be bidding adieu to The Coop Bistro when they vacate the space on October 20. Until then their 2-4-1 Parmy Nights will continue on Wednesday 3, 10 and 17 October, the last Bueno Bueno $3 Tacos will fly out the door Thursday October 18, with the ultimate Nugg Club (all you can eat nuggets for $20) on their very last day of trade, Saturday 20 October.
