The Urban List Dinner Series kicked off in style on Tuesday night at Gerard's Bistro
, as part of the James Street Food Trails' continuing culinary hijacking of the street's best dining venues.
The evening was a celebration of Torbeck wines, with each course in the stunning five-course degustation perfectly paired to this Barossa winery's best vintages, and we were there to try them all (it's a tough job).
The menu was fittingly Gerard-esque (read: divine) with lightly smoked Petuna ocean trout, whole roasted quail with date and rose stuffing, coal-roasted, grass-fed beef with salt-crusted celeriac, and lamb tagine with an Iranian sweet rice with pistachio, pomegranate, and sour cherry gracing the line up.
Diners enjoyed Torbeck's The Loon, Runrig, and The Steading with their mains, while the dessert—a berry cheesecake made with seasonal spring flowers, rooftop honey and vanilla—was teamed with a 2012 Bothie Frontignac.
And the fun didn't stop at the Pisco Sours. We also took over Harveys
, with the help of Pol Roger, for an epic champagne-inspired meal. Think quail and spice-roasted quince teamed with Pol Roger Brut Rose, snapper, pan-fried in champagne with chives and truffle, and heavenly gingerbread icecream with vanilla custard and a heady Pol Roger Brut Vintage.
The Urban List Dinner Series continues tonight, when The Truffle Man brings his pungent and knobbly wares to Bucci
, for one night of all-out truffle heaven.
